Wrestling, one the world’s oldest sport, is the newest sport to the athletic program. Head Coach Danny Nolan, with the help of his father, Coach Kevin Nolan, and his brother Coach Mike Nolan instruct four seniors, three juniors, five sophomores, and five freshman in the sport of wrestling.

Looking for their most successful season in the school’s wrestling history, the wrestling team practices together everyday after school for a maximum of two hours.

“The team is working hard and really buying into our goals for this season.” said Danny.

Seniors Zach Hytrek and Seth Broadstone and freshman Jarrett Cline, all placed in the first tournament held at Bennington.

He makes sure that no one is breaking the rules, ultimately providing a safer environment. In other sports such as football and soccer there is more of a chance that someone won’t be stopped from breaking a rule or getting hurt because there is a larger player-to-referee ratio and it is harder to watch every player at the same time. In the sport of wrestling, you always go up against someone that is in the same weight class as you, while in a sport like football, you are going up against other people that aren’t always close to your weight.

This year there are two wrestlers that can’t practice with the team due to major injuries. One of them is sophomore Tommy Whitaker, whose favorite sport is wrestling. Whitaker is on his way to recovery after breaking his arm during football. After Christmas break, he plans to start practicing again with the team. Whitaker will not participate in wrestling meets right away when he returns, but will slowly get back into the feel of the sport.
