The Psychology of Personality
Personality is a branch in psychology that studies the variation of personality among individuals and their differences in characteristic patterns of feeling, behaving and thinking. My first source (group A) comes from the APA (American Psychological Association). The topic What causes personality disorders is on how "research suggests that genetics, abuse and other factors contribute to the development of obsessive compulsive, narcissistic or other personality disorders." My second source (group B) comes from TIME Magazine. Personality is a set of individual differences that are affected by the development of an individual: values, attitudes, personal memories, social relationships, habits, and skills. Different personality theorists present their own definitions of the word based on their theoretical positions. The term "personality trait" refers to enduring personal characteristics that are revealed in a particular pattern of behaviour in a variety of situations. Personality can be determined through a variety of tests. However, dimensions of personality and scales of personality tests vary and often are poorly defined.
Personality, defined by Merriam-Webster, is a set of enduring behavioral and mental traits that distinguish human beings from one another. Therefore, a personality disorder “is a type of mental illness in which you have trouble perceiving and relating to situations and to people—including yourself” (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). In general, someone who suffers from a personality disorder has a long-term pattern of behaviors and emotions that are very different from the society’s view of “normal”.
Personality is the individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. To me, personality means uniqueness. It is what sets us all apart from one another. Personality psychologist has coined five different traits into the Big Five. It consists of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience. Extraverts are people who are relatively sociable and outgoing while on the opposite end individuals who are introverts are people who would much rather enjoy the company of close friends and family. Our personality is subjectable to change and development throughout one’s life due to nature and nurture. While we are born with certain genes that influence our personality there are also cultural, experiential, and social influence throughout our life. Personality is a branch of scientific discipline that studies temperament and its variation among people. It is a dynamic and a set of characteristics possessed by their atmosphere, cognitions, emotions, motivations and behaviours in various things. Personality conjointly refers to the pattern of thoughts, feelings, social adjustments and behaviour consistently exhibited over time that powerfully influences one’s exceptions, self-perceptions, values and attitudes. It also predicts human reactions to different folks, problems and stress.
Jenkins (2005) defines personality as “a person’s characteristic patterns of behavior that contribute to his or her uniqueness”. In other words, personality is one of the psychological factors that make each individual different.

My belief is that the nature of our behavior is based on astronomy; hence the reason that people who share the same zodiac sign have very similar characteristics, and sometimes a combination of people with certain zodiac signs cannot get along or are very compatible. Sometimes I can tell from a person’s sign because of their behavior, and likes and dislikes. Learning more about astrology and the zodiac signs helps us to understand people and their actions. Many argue that it is coincidence, but the odds are too high to be that.

Personality seems to be located upon a complicated interaction between genetic, environmental factors, and with race, ethnicity, culture, age, as well as, gender. In 1937, Gordon Allport defined personality as ‘the dynamic organisation within the individual of those psychophysical systems that determine a unique adjustment to the environment’ (Maltby, Day, and Macaskill, 2013, pp.18). However, in 1961, Allport defined it again, but this time as ‘the dynamic organisation inside the person of psychophysical systems that determine the person’s characteristics patterns of behaviour and thought’ (Sage, 2014).
