What is Telenursing?
Telenursing is the use of technology to deliver nursing care and conduct nursing practice. Nurses engaged in telenursing practice continue to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate the outcomes of nursing care. “Telenusring involves the use of various technologies to transmit data, voice, and video communication signals. It can include the use of telephones, computers, video-phones, and other more sophisticated devices that enable nurses to practice nursing in nontraditional ways.” (Grady, 2011) Technologies have advanced and become more affordable which makes telenursing more and more feasible..
The educational requirements for a telenurse are similar to that of any other nurse. The telenurse should have obtained at least a two-year nursing degree from an accredited program. They must have passed their state board exams from the state in which they will be practicing in. The telenurse will generally be required to have several years of nursing experience, as well as some call center experience. A telenurse generally enjoys their work as it allows them flexibi...
Telehealth is the monitoring via remote exchange of physiological data between a patient at home and health care professionals at hospitals or clinics to assist with diagnosis and treatment. As our society ages and health care costs increase, government and private insurance payers are seeking technological interventions. Technological solutions may provide high quality healthcare services at a distance, utilize professional resources more effectively, and enable elderly and ill patients to remain in their own homes. Patients may experience decreased hospitalization and urgent care settings, and out of home care may not be required as the patient is monitored at home. However, no study has been able to prove telehealth benefits conclusively. This change in health care delivery presents new ethical concerns, and new relationship boundaries between health care professionals, patients, and family members. This paper will discuss telehealth benefits in specific patient populations, costs benefits of using telehealth, and concerns of using telehealth.

Telemetry nurses are RNs with advanced training who deal only with patients who have ongoing health conditions or experience sudden health services, such as those who have heart problems or those who recently had surgery. Telemetry nurses use various types of medical technology to monitor patients' vitals such as blood pressure, heart activity, breathing patterns and blood oxygen saturation. They record and interpret this data to assess their patient's recovery rates. They also share this information with physicians and other health care experts to determine treatment methods. Telemetry nurses must meticulously track all medications in order to avoid any negative drug interactions. Telemetry nurses are involved at the beginning of care when they assist doctors with procedures and diagnostics. They oversee patients until the end of care when they educate them how to avoid potential relapses or problems after they are released.
Second, you have to obtain a Registered Nurse (RN) License. All RNs are required to have a nursing license to even step foot into a nursing position. Before you can receive your nursing license you have to have a Master’s Degree with proper nursing programs within the degree. You can receive your registered nurse license by passing the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).
Telenursing is the application of information and telecommunications technology to offer the nursing or healthcare services to the patients. The most advanced field of telehealth is in household telenursing healthcare. Telenursing devices like computers, telephones and videophones enable nurses to increase successfully the patient numbers seen daily while reducing the entire workload (Arnaert & Delesie, 2001). Nurses are capable of doing this without having to leave the doctor’s office or hospital hence saving a considerable amount of
The general requirements include a high school diploma, associates or bachelor's degree in nursing, a passing score on the NCLEX-RN exam, a state licensure as an RN, and work experience in a pediatric setting. After you meet the requirements, certification is usually the next step, although it may not be required by the state, but in some cases may be required or recommended by your employer. In Texas certification is required, and many require a bachelor’s degree.

Technological advances enable nurses to provide accurate, timely care for a patient. This is due to the fact that these advances enable doctors and nurses to quickly diagnose, explain and predict the health-illness status of a patient, thus allowing health care professionals to spend less time finding answers, and more time providing quality care. For nurses, this includes spending time with the patient establishing rapport, communication and a trusting relationship for optimum clinical care.
Nursing has come a long way in the last decade with computer technology and the ever changing patient technology. Nurses who are not on board with the changes can fall behind. The nurses who are infatuated and excited for technological changes always want to participate in research
Telemedicine is a tool that enables providers to deliver health care services to patients at distant location, and it is often promoted as a means of addressing the imbalances in the distribution of health care resources (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2013, p. 156.)
Information Systems/Technology and patient care technology for the improvement and transformation of health care is an important part of the DNP. Technology has transformed every aspect of human life in positive ways. Technology brought efficiency and improved healthcare deliverance system. Healthcare technologies enabled practitioners to better understand disease process and how to implement best treatment plan. DNP programs across the country embrace information systems and technology in their nursing curriculum because, it prepares nursing students to be innovative and deliver best care (AACN, 2006). DNP graduates must have the ability to use technology to analyze and disseminate critical information to find solutions that
We are living in electrifying times. Mobile health (mHealth) technology is changing every facet of the way we live. Possibly no area is more imperative or more reflective than the improvements we are observing in healthcare (Fox & Duggan, 2012). In current years, there has been an increase of wearable devices, social media, smartphone apps, and telehealth, and each has immense promise for the future of organized health care (Fox & Duggan, 2012). With the capacity to assemble and interpret patient-made data, these mHealth tools keep the assurance of changing the way health care is provided, proposing patients their own customized medical guidance (Manojlovich et al., 2015). Health care availability, affordability, and quality are
Technology and innovation have transformed the way people function personally and professionally. In the past, writing and mailing a letter was standard but now most people send electronic messages and text messages to phones. Healthcare has been changing tremendously as well, not only are paper charts and records becoming obsolete, but now many facilities are sharing test results, visit information details, and prescribed drug lists. This move into the digital age has helped improve healthcare by cutting costs in the long-term, increasing efficiency with decreased wait times, and reducing medical errors. This evolving technology expansion, commonly referred to as nursing informatics has created many opportunities for nursing professionals with information technology experience to move into this growing field.
Telehealth nurses use the nursing process to provide care for individual patients or defined patient populations over a telecommunication device” (Stokowski, 2008). Computer technology allows for nurses to facilitate care at a distance and although still in its transitioning phases, telehealth and telenursing will hopefully rectify the problem of the nation’s nursing shortage. The term ‘telenursing’ is not completely new. What was once the more popular ‘advice nurse’ or phone ‘triage nurse’, is now the new and improved telenurse. Telenursing allows for a nurse have real-time 2-way interaction with the patient.
Nursing has evolved through time and the care nurses provide must tailor itself to these changes. Today we live in a world where new technologies are used everywhere. Nurses must stay rooted in human caring while adapting to these advancements. Nursing must not move to be merely a technical practice. Locsin’s theory of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing works to frame the relationship between nursing care and the use of technology.
