Based on my observation, the professor of ECS 30 and the professor of MAT 21A have significant differences of teaching method corresponding to their ages. For ECS 30, the younger professor usually uses projector connecting to computer in order to write the exact programming codes and present how the codes work. And also the most students take notes by computer or other tablets. Most of the students favor the way of teaching, because they can learn the details when the professor changes a few lines of code which makes a huge difference in the whole program. For MAT 21A, on the contrary, the older professor uses pure hand writing. He teaches one section by one section, makes examples after each point and may bring a few jokes to release the pressure of the class. Most students like the professor, because he is hilarious and own the plenty of teaching experience. He knows what part of knowledge is hard for most of the students and tries to explain as clear as possible by showing a few examples and definitions. As cited by Christopher and Robert in Promoting Active Learning Using Individual Response Technology (IRT) in Large Introductory Psychology Classes, there was an exhaustive survey showing that 49.1% students believed that answering IRT encouraged them to talk to other students, 50.9% students agreed that they learnt more in class because IRT questions apply what the professor taught during the class, and 42.5% of them thought using IRT was fun and made the class more enjoyable. And as a result, the average of four exams revealed that student in the IRT course performed significantly better (M = 84.03%, SD = 7.54) than students in traditional course (M = 82.72%, SD = 7.64). In the other words, using the technology classwork not only brings the joy to the class, but also improves the understanding and interaction of the class, which eventually uplifts the grades of the whole teaching process. In addition to the previous observation, in MAT 21, the homework is all on the paper, and it is not mandatory in this class which means you don’t have to hand in the homework and get a grade. It is good for students who have fully understand the knowledge and saves time for them; however, in the other words, the class grades will highly corresponds to Midterms and Final, which require students perform
