Several experts claim that technology has taken over our lives and its deteriorating human relationships. I do agree that our society has an obsession with technology, but it’s not deteriorating human relationships. The educational systems are using technology to teach classes. Online dating is the new way to meet other people; and social media is making us more aware of what is going on around the world. There are pros and cons of technology, but the positive does outweigh the negative. Today’s school systems are much more different than a decade ago, due to computers. Teachers are required to teach students the basic functions of a computer, and how to use it properly. “The use of computers and technology in classrooms has opened up a whole new method of teaching and effective learning. E-learning and online educations has made it very simple and systematic for an individual to receive personal attention, so that all his specific needs are fulfilled” (Benefits). The use of computers is helping students engaged with activities longer, retaining important information, and learning critical thinking skills that can be used in the near future. It’s also easier for teachers to communicate with parents through emailing. The2 lists of possibilities computer technology have helped students with are endless. The con of the computer is the lack of face-to-face interactions, but with the new materials, students are learning from it, they are bound to share that information with other. Learning and teaching is what our society is built on; that’s why computers are a great benefit to our society. The new way to date is called online dating. The lack of privacy on social media sites is one of the biggest cons. Vaidnyanathan states, “If you read Google’s privacy policy carefully, it is clear that they retain the right to make significant decisions about our data without regard for our interests” (Negative). Social media will continue to grow, regardless of the negative views of it. The use of technology for education, dating, and social media has improved our society. Its making us communicate with each other in a different way. We are afraid of what technology could do to us, but it’s just a matter of time before we adjust to it and consider it our conventional way to communicate. Society has conformed to the use of the technology and it’s the norm.
