How Success is Viewed

Winston Churchill once said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm” (BrainyQuote). To be successful means to achieve a goal or task at hand. People want success in anything they are doing. In his book entitled Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell tells us “What is the question we always ask about the successful? …what kind of lifestyles they have, or what special talents they might have been born with. And we assume that it is those personal qualities that explain how that individual reached the top” (Gladwell 18). Gladwell is right that people do tend to define success by traits of a successful person. America is recognized for defining success by the things that money can buy such as our fancy cars or designer clothes. In life, the true indicator of success is the effectiveness at the task, the joy of profession, and overall making an impact in people’s lives.
