Imposing Green Taxes on the carbon content in fuel will help in alleviating the strain on our environment. If the federal government could come up with more stringent carbon laws that impose taxes on carbon emitting fuels or resources that greatly impact the environment, it will help change how big business today operate. With our nations large appetite for natural resources and while this compliments their ongoing destruction to the environment, the US is one of the largest polluters, our government can set a standard for how companies should pay for their impact on the environment. Taxes on energy will lead to the true cost of resources and the innovation of new technology which will allow for lower emissions.
The United States has no formal carbon tax that the federal government imposes on its citizen or on big corporations. The states take it in their hands and tax the efficiency at which a car should run based on its “footprint”. (1) Since 1970 automakers have been able to produce new and much lighter, stronger metals and fuel efficient engines that can run for many years. Does this affect the price of fuel? Yes, it does and for a while it affects the price at the pump for consumers. But in turn, what it does is take scientist back to the drawing board to find better and new ways that fuel should burn, metals should break and strength even alternative composites. Before 1990 lead was used in fuels to lubricate the engine as well as cool it. Fuel is rated by its octane most of us is understood it as Regular, Unleaded and Super Unleaded gas, but octane has a numerical value and in the US, 3 different ratings. Octane Ratings can be referred to as the flashpoint at which a fuel will burn and the efficiency at which it burn cle...

...le? It doesn’t make any logical sense.
Hawkens believes that business is moving towards a transformation one that will be of disorder or one that companies will accept its role in the world and transform and undertake the restorative process of change. Green taxes are just the beginning, the thought and lifestyle of how a business must operate must be ingrained into making the environment better. Instead of trickling high cost down to the consumer, it will be options of renewable resources; it won’t be waste dumped into rivers, but waste sold to another company for their consumption and profit. It can happen for the corporations in this country adopt a policy for these types of taxes, let the US be an example of change so the rest of the world can understand its impact on the environment and follow suit. This planet is the only planet we have, it’s now time to act.
Increasing environmental awareness, coupled with a responsible American government and improved technology, have all contributed to the comeback of low-and zero-emissions vehicles in the US. It remains to be seen whether the automakers and oil companies will once again work to halt this progress, or embrace it as the technology of a more responsible future.
The issue presented in this paper is how one can aim to reduce the amounts released, and what the best ways to solve this problem are. This has been long debated amongst scientists, businessmen, Industry-owners, and politicians amongst many other eminent figures in society. The four major approaches to reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere include: subsidies of alternative energy, cap and trade, carbon taxes, and command and control regulation. We will examine and compare the effectiveness of two of these methods: The carb...
People need to reduce the use of carbon footprints because many companies like Exxon and Keystone XL did their dirty business that effect public health and environment. Political campaigns are part of the effect in global warming because they promise to go green but never make an effort. Obama forced to solve climate but fail to do so in 2008. Obama signed a billion that support teams of energy advisors and control carbon emissions. According to Derber, big business did not support the bill and tried to get rid of it. Fracking is a process used by fossil fuel companies to extract oil and gas from shale or other deep rocks. There was a movement against fracking lead by Jill Wiener who fought for 5 years to keep fracking legalized in New York and some people were arrested in the White house for
Key regulations: According to the GAO, the two major regulations namely, the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) and Department of Transportation’s (DOT) coordinated fuel economy and the greenhouse gas (GHG) vehicle emission standards, as well as EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standards (RFS) have contributed to declining petroleum-based fuel consumption. For some refiners, adherence to the RFS increased costs in the first half of 2013, although costs have significantly declined to some degree from their peak ( United States Government Accountability Office , 2014).
The tradeoffs of using gasoline for cars are large emission of carbon dioxide and required large amount of chemical t...
First, the carbon tax has a great effect on emission reductions for the purpose. It is considered as the most economically efficient way to tackle the greenhouse gas market failure. 6 years of having implemented the carbon tax, the consumption of fuels per person in B.C dropped by 16.1%. Comparing it risen by 3% in the rest of Canada, this figure may suggest a remarkable improvement to emissions mitigation.
The two policy options I will consider are the continuation of the current stimulus package or the introduction of a carbon tax. Both policies would be effective in achieving the President's aim of reducing negative effects on the environment and growing the economy, although through different mechanisms. There are other policy options such as cap and trade schemes, reliance on the market and government-sponsored research programs (Frank, Jennings & Bernanke 2009 pp 328-329) ...
Pollution is a major problem for all of us. People need to recognize this situation so we can start making a difference to this problem. In order to start making a difference, the federal government should increase gasoline tax by one dollar a gallon. Fifty percent of this dollar will go towards public transportation, since passenger cars and trucks are a major contribution towards air pollution, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, E.P.A (10/4, http://www.epa.gov/autoemissions/emsns.html). Due to the expected increase after this is put forth, the remaining fifty percent of the dollar will go towards safety on these transits. When public transportation increases, air pollution will decrease, which will lessen the harmful health risks towards the environment.
There are a number of measures that have already been shown to have a positive effect on the environment and, if we redouble our efforts, could help to reverse the situation. I believe that, while it is true that there is a lot of negative news to this situation, there are many positive and effective actions that can be taken to restore a lot of what we have lost, or are in danger of losing. Consequently, a number of feasible measures can be implemented which will go a long way in slowing, stopping and, over time, reversing some of the harm caused. Initially, and perhaps the most important, is that we need to tackle the problem of carbons in our atmosphere. Consequently, if CO2 emissions are cut or drastically reduced, this will in turn help to reduce the level of greenhouse gases meaning that further global warming will diminish. (Climate Change Evidence and causes, 2013:33) This can be done in a number of ways. By continuing to develop new, greener technologies, cars and traffic in general will become cleaner, emitting fewer exhaust fumes and releasing less carbon into the air. This is already being done. At the recent UN climate-change conference in Doha, some 37 countries agreed to abide by legally-binding emission reduction measures. (Figureres C, 2012) We have seen the development of more efficient engines and hybrid models that use both petrol and electricity. Electric-only vehicles are also becoming more popular and new designs that are powered by solar energy are coming onto the market. Industry is also looking at ways to harness bio-mass and the possibility of hydrogen engines. These measures have already had a noticeable effect on the quality of life in a number of
One of the most compelling and difficult environmental problems society is facing today is climate change. People do not realize how much the environment has changed for the worse in the last ten years, until they are told that the last two decades of the 20th century have been the hottest in the last 400 years, according to climate studies (Conserve Energy Future). Today the carbon dioxide levels have reached 396.81 parts per million (ppm). “Carbon dioxide (CO2) has also increased over the last 100 years-- from about 300 ppm to 370 ppm. Interestingly, the majority of these additions have occurred in the last 50 years, when temperature increases have been slowest” (geocraft). There are no known solutions yet to reverse these effects in the environment, however there are many things people can do to prevent it from increasing. By implementing a carbon tax the government can tax corporations on how much carbon they emit into the atmosphere. With the extra money from the tax, scientist can invest in alternative ways to reduce how much carbon is emitted. Reducing climate change is going to take years and so nothing is going to get fixed anytime soon, but meanwhile we can use that extra money to begin cleaning up the atmosphere. There are many ways to explain climate change, some say its due to the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere, others say it is the burning of the fossils fuels, some even say it’s the greenhouse gases. All of these sayings mean the exact same thing, no matter how one says it. I believe there are more convenient ways to solve climate change; and if the government would to implement a carbon tax on companies they will then be forced to re-evaluate all the carbon they emit to the environment and red...
By and large, the automobile is the only way most Americans travel. Without getting into the details of problems with public transportation, people simply do not consider other options to personal transportation. This becomes especially significant when one considers that cars are the single largest emitter of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The U.S. produces nearly 24% of the world’s CO2 emissions, a third of which comes from gasoline combustion in cars 4,5. Many scientists cite rising oil consumption as the leading cause...
People can also reduce the use of fossil fuels by doing simple things for instance switching off lights and appliances when leaving the room. Walking or cycling instead of driving a car or use public transport for maybe longer journeys. Little things like this will make a big difference, making our planet a better place.
In recent years, business or green business was no longer an option to become an obligation. Companies started to change their mindset and values to develop new environmental proposals, for example launching second ecological lines.
Prevent dangerous climate change by phasing out fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas) and replacing them with clean renewable energy such as solar.
It is clear that the US consumption of polluting substances like lead, platinum and rubber has dropped due to improvements in the environmental friendliness of auto manufacturing, since these materials have been in use for cars since the 1950s. By replacing materials with those of a lower density has also made an important impact on fuel economy. Studies show that making 10% reduction in mass yields 5% improvement in fuel economy. Indeed, the US automakers in the last 25 years have responded to the government regulations Corporate Average Fuel Economy by changing materials to lighter ones like aluminum and plastics. Newer developments using other components like Magnesium, polymer composites, and ceramics also are helping to make further improvements to fuel
