How Important is it?
A college education is a major part of student’s futures in today’s society. If a group of students were asked what they want when their older most of them would say they want money. In today’s society in order to make money a college education becomes a major component that students need. A college education has many values that will help a student advance into their future, but a college education has many limits as well. Different kinds of schools and populations change the aspect of a college education. Students from different schools may get looked at differently based on which school they go to and where it is located.

In high school students learned a lot of information because of the courses they took. When the students get to college they must use that previous knowledge and study tips to help them get through each semester. In college the students learn a large amount of information in a short period of time, but their knowledge on the topic has definitely grown more than just what they learned in high school. Even if the information students learned in high school isn’t being transferred over to their college education, their knowledge is still broadening due to all of the new information they are learning in the other courses they never took before. In “Don’t Send Your Kid to the Ivy League,” William Deresieicz argues, “The first thing that college is for is to teach you to think” (5). That is a major component to the college education. Thinking doesn’t come easy to all educationally, but college helps your mind think clearer and more intellectually. There are pros and cons to these two aspects of a college education. If a student attends a small school they have more access to their professors if they need help, but if a student attends a larger school they lose that helpful aspect. Attending a specialty college has some pros and cons to it as well. For example, a specialty college allows a student to focus on their field of study and they are able to take the main courses for that field. A specialty college is more competitive for each field of study because more than just a couple of people are going for that major. It is more competitive than a public college as well because each student is fighting to get a spot in that specialty or private college.
