Thanks to this writing process, my work has improved in a very tremendous way because I have been able to reflect on my work before and after I turn it in for a grade. The blogs have given me a sense of guidance through my writing process strategies. Another strategy of mine that has improved is my ability to conduct extensive research, during WP2 which was our collaborative writing piece, I was taught how to conduct credible research to help me draft for my topic. The research I have conducted during this course has been extremely beneficial to me because I now know what credible sources are to ensure that my research is trustworthy. I have learned where to find the best research through the use of different databases.
It was a task that took a significant amount of time and effort, but was truly an excellent learning experience. I found it intriguing how much the original essay can improve or modify over time; moreover, how different ideas flow through your brain each second. The revision of my essays taught me an enormous deal about writing and was genuinely pleasurable to do. In summary, I had an enjoyable time in my first college English class. I pushed myself as diligently as I could and learned much more than I thought I would.
Other aspects of the writing process over the semester such as the revision stages were also something that I continued to progress in. I’ve come to realization that writing is no longer a just another assignment that I can just through just before it’s due. This class is the first writing course in which I’ve actually had to push myself. I firmly believe that I have that brought my writing to another level. My paragraphs feel sharper, my ability to reference pop text has gotten significantly better, and, most importantly, I am able to more personal with my writing.
Therefore, I am aware that I have to provide my audience with a good introduction. Writing for an audience with a specific purpose depending on the type of essay has helped me improve my writing a lot. My current strengths are coming up with good store of grammar knowledge and also a wider vocabulary, but my weaknesses are still punctuation and sometimes spelling. I feel that I need to work harder on these skills.
During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really understood the significance of MAP. For this reason, my writing lacked clarity, organization, and my writings appeared less focused on the topics.
Peer reviewing with Russell was great because he had some great insight in how to portray my reputation. I wanted to thank Ms. Geary for reminding me how much writing can do for me. It helped me realize that writing isn’t so horrible but it is just hard work. My writing skills have improved due to this class and all Ms. Geary had taught me.
Although I have learned an immense deal of writing skills within this course there some things I feel I can improve upon, such as, introductions and properly heading papers. One of the first skills I feel that I have gained throughout this course is the ability to prove my points in writing assignments. I feel that I have improved on making my readers know exactly the points I want to get across and the points that keep to the topic. For example, on essay number one in paragraph two, I wrote about the reasons of why I felt the stand your ground law needed to be changed or removed. To prove my point one of the reasons I spoke about was the Trayvon Martin incident, of which I felt could affect my readers on an emotional level and get readers to agree with my stance.
During this semester, I have done various work such as reading and writing. This work includes reading articles from the book and writing essays. Some of the work I did was a challenge at the beginning, but I was able to persist and overcome those barriers. During the time I been in this class, I have learned many important strategies that have helped me improve in various ways. One major method that has improved my academic skills and quality in education has been the use of the Habits of Mind.
Thanks to English 1010 D2L document, I was able to understand how to find content, take quizzes and communicate with lecturers. This course has been a valuable one, equipping me with skills I’ll remember when even after I graduate MT. Although there is still many more stuff I can learn to improve myself as a writer and reader, I am content with the improvement I’ve seen from when I first started this English 1010 course.
From deciding on the research topic, to the material that would be best to use, and the best resources to use to find that information were all very overwhelming to me. The Comparison-Contrast Essay was the first essay that required a good amount of research. The weekly discussions helped me in finding a good topic to write about and I was able to get feedback on my ideas prior to starting my paper. The feedback was very insightful and let me know if I was on the right path. Knowing that I was able to articulate my thoughts to the professor and receive helpful advice was very encouraging.
