Introduction An individual 's happiness is vital to their overall wellbeing and is affected by numerous factors, to varying extents. Some factors are believed to have an exclusive effect on happiness and by changing them, an individual will have greater happiness (Be clearer and narrow focus). This essay will begin by discussing how an individual 's attitude is scrutinised and the resulting effect on their happiness. It will then consider how an individual’s behaviour affects happiness. In addition, money’s effect on an individual’s happiness will be explained and the belief that more money will bring more happiness will be examined. The reality for those in lower social classes is they are less able to provide necessities for themselves, therefore they will be unhappier than those in higher classes, regardless of attitude or behaviour. Hout (2016, p. 219) concluded that although money cannot buy an individual happiness, ‘the status and security’ that accompany being in a higher social class was linked with more happiness for affluent individuals. Adding further pressure to individuals in lower social classes is that 'Research shows people are as likely to move downward as they are upward in the class system’ (Carter, 2011, p. 227). Expecting individuals caught in this downward spiral to simple change their attitude and behaviour to improve their happiness is lacking in the understanding of the complexities of how inequality between social class affect those individuals. Even if they have come to accept their situation as fair, this does not mean that they are happy with this being the norm (Carter, 2011, p. 221).
