How Does Family Affect Family Structure

t is my attention to investigate the relationship between the culture of the family and how it is structured. Before I investigate any further I need to understand the meaning of the word family. According to the dictionary, the word family is the basic unit of society connected with blood ties and clan relations. But, to better understand families and the specific relations they represent, we must realise that the term “family” changes in the response to a wide variety of the social and cultural conditions.

In China, it is difficult for the people to accept the idea of being sent to nursing homes when they are old, as long as they have sons and daughters they will live with them. This then pulls the family closer. Even though some old people …show more content…

This may include how in most cases the parents will love and respect their child, but their children will also respect their parents in a way that they see as appropriate, even though the way they show their respect maybe different but at the end of the day they all love each other. No matter where you live there will be differences in the same culture. There is always rich and poor and their perspective of things are always differently. This means that even though culture makes a huge affect on how the family is structured other factors also take a part in the making of a family structure. Even though many Chinese parents try to have boys some parents wont mind if they have a girl this is because those parents are more educated and believe that having a child that can grow up healthy and safe is more important than what sex their child is.

In conclusion, after all the research on the different variety of explanations I have reason to believe that culture has a huge effect on the family structure. There may be other reasons, like wealth, knowledge, experience and much more, to explain why family structures are different, but it is obvious that they play a far less important role in the development of family structure compared to how the culture of the family affects the development of the family structure. The culture makes that families perceive things differently and this is something that the other reasons can not explain
