From the time when they were born in this world until they dies, many people struggle with the question of who are they. Some considers the identity of one person will not change in his or her life, but actually everyone changes himself or herself during different time and in various situations. In The Great Gatsby, this is not only a love story, but also a tragedy. Jay Gatsby tries to convince Daisy, who is the women he still loves, to leave with him, but she already married Thomas Buchanan. Also, Daisy refused to leave her husband, and leave this city with Jay Gatsby because she did not want to give up her wealthy life. After he met Daisy and own her again, he told her why he bought a huge house just because he said that he could see “a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock ” (Fitzgerald, 111). He felt happy when he sees the green light on the other side. Even though he has done hard work like holding extravagant parties, and he hoped that it would be really attractive to Daisy, Daisy was not aware of these. He was not direct, and he wanted Daisy to feel his love, and understood him without telling her. In the book, the author describes the thoughts of Jay Gatsby: “He wanted nothing less of Daisy than that she should go to Tom and say ‘I never loved you’ ” (Fitzgerald 109). Although he was anxious and worried, he still waited for Daisy to decide by herself. The way he uses is not only about love, but also about friendship. He lets Jordan ask “if you’ll invite Daisy to your house some afternoon and then let him come over” (Fitzgerald, 49). Nick is stocked because this is just a small demand. However, in the movie, Forrest Gump uses a direct way, which is using language and doing actions. When he began to think about the relationship between him and Jenny, he told to Jenny, “I don’t know why I love you. But I do” (Forrest). One time, after parties, Jay Gatsby told Nick, “she did not like it.”(Fitzgerald, 68) Every time, when Jay Gatsby would like to reach his goal, he thought about how other people would feel about it. Moreover, he felt that her voice is full of money. When he deals with everything related to Daisy, he is careful and emotional. However, Jay Gatsby realized what Daisy wants when he guessed the reason why she decided to marry Thomas Buchanan although she received his letter. That is power of money, and she loves the grand house, money, and rich life. Jay Gatsby tried to get her attention by displaying what he has in his house. During the first time, he brought her to his luxuriant house, and showed off what he has. That is the way that Forrest Gump shows his love is never giving up. When Forrest Gump met Jenny after becoming a soldier, Jenny asked him, “why are you so good to me?” (Forrest). Forrest Gump answered, “you’re my girl!” (Forrest). When she left him over and over again, he did not complain, but he waited her. Also, he promised, “I would never hurt you.” This is what he thinks about love, which is protection and firm determination. He wants to trust Jenny, although she leaves him again and again.
