A model is a representation of a physical, structural, or conceptual object or concept. It is important to bear in mind that a model is not the object or concept itself, it is merely a representation of it. It is evident that there will be some noticeable differences or deviations between the object or concept and the model representing it, this will affect one’s understanding . A model is generally used to simplify the complex theory or object. An object would be simplified, and distorted, into a model to be used for symbolic positioning or to show a systematic process. By viewing the toy car we can acquire knowledge on the positioning of the car parts, the functions of a car, and, at first glance, an accurate interpretation of a car. From the aforementioned information we can conclude that models provide visualization. Through reasoning I realize the multiple ways the toy car has hindered my search for knowledge. The toy car raises more questions rather than leading me to knowledge; How does the engine work ? How does the car stay assembled ? The limitations of the toy car outweigh the acquirable knowledge of the model. The model itself does not provide an accurate representation of the technicalities of a car or what it feels like to drive a car, but through further research my questions can be answered. It can be considered that models are only meant to represent a certain aspect or function of the original object or concept. The toy car was intended to represent the physical appearance of a microscopic car and not the technicalities of the car. Simplifying the original object makes it easier to understand the visuals of the object, but by doing so one can believe that the simplistic representation is the reality. The idol from different religions across the world is a model, because it is a simplified representation of something in the world. The idol is a simplified representation of God. The identity and concept of God is difficult to understand and representing God as an idol helps, but also hinders our search for knowledge. Faith or simply what God looks like is the knowledge used in this model. By representing God as an idol it helps our search for knowledge, our way of knowing God is then augmented through emotion, it is considered to be easier to pray or communicate to an idol, which augments the search for knowledge by conjuring emotions better. The visual representation or presence of an idol of God may cause an emotional response which augments the power of dedication needed to pray. Nonetheless, the idol of God hinders our search for knowledge, because the model of a concept so complex as diverse and an entity as supreme as God may restrict our comprehension of God to that idol itself. God is much more than the simplified visual model of the entity. It is better to accept the model of God as a channel to reach God instead of using the model to comprehend
