“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm. If you're going through hell, keep going. You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.” (Winston Churchill). Every leader in Europe challenged by Adolf Hitler had either back down or been conquered but the new British Prime Minister stood tall. Although he was one man, Winston Churchill saved Europe; He was and is a great inspiration and without him, the war would’ve been lost.
Winston Churchill was prematurely born on 30 November 1874. Churchill experienced a neglected and unhappy childhood. (American Decades). He was born to an aristocratic family but his parents were never there for him, Churchill adored his mother but his relationship with his father remained cold and distant. (“Winston S.”). He was defeated in the general election in July 1945. During the next six years, Churchill became the leader of the opposing party and continued to have an impact on world affairs (“Winston Churchill”). On March 5 1946, Churchill gave his famous “iron curtain” speech while visiting the United States (“Winston”). Churchill’s speeches created a storm of protest and controversy in the West, but events soon confirmed his views of world events and the rapidly developing “cold war.” (American Decades). In 1951, 77-year-old Winston Churchill became a prime minister for the second time and spent most of his time working to build a sustainable détente between the East and the West. (“Winston S.). But after a second stroke leaves him with difficulties speaking and walking, Churchill retires and dies on January 24, 1965
