The Louisiana Purchase was one of the biggest real estates in the world. The United States bought the 827,000 square miles of land from France for $15 million on April 30, 1803. Thomas Jefferson was a big part of this large buy, considering he was the president at the time. Although it was a major part of the history and growth of the United States, it was quite hypocritical. I believe that Thomas Jefferson shouldn’t have bought the Louisiana area the way he did, considering his strong arguments he had in the past.

Thomas Jefferson has always been a key figure in the building of the United States. Before becoming the third president, Thomas Jefferson was the Secretary of State, serving under the first president, George Washington. Also serving under Washington was the famous Alexander Hamilton, the Secretary of the Treasury. Hamilton and Jefferson were complete opposites even though they both were highly ranked and brilliant. Jefferson was an Antifederalist and a Democratic-Republican while Hamilton was a Federalist, so their views were completely different, like how they disagreed on the idea of the Constitution. They both were big improvements yet he went against his own saying when it came down to the hundred thousands square miles of land. I don’t believe that it was right for Thomas Jefferson to buy the land when it was not in the Constitution. It wasn’t right for him to go against his own words later in time even though it made a big impact. He could have gotten the Constitution to let it be allowed, so he could have still gotten the land and showed that his words meant something.
