When people think about bands and music from the 1960’s they usually always think of the Beatles. Everyone knows the Beatles, maybe not most of their songs but they know the band’s name. People recognize them in pictures and know the names of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The Beatles changed our nation by changing music and by becoming the most influential band. The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. No other band has influenced pop culture the way the Beatles have. Soon the Beatles reached a level of popularity that even out shown their pre-eminence in Britain. The previous year, the Beatles had two #1 albums in the UK and many U.S record labels wanted to sign the band but Capitol Records signed The Beatles a U.S record deal. Their first arrival from Britain to the United States was known as the “British Invasion” because of their popularity in England and soon reaching their peak popularity in the United States. At the time around their peak in popularity, controversy exploded when Lennon made a remark in a British newspaper saying “Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue with that; I'm right and will be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now”. This upset many Americans and the anti-Beatles were so intense that they sent out death threats to the group. For the concern of his band members, Lennon apologized at a Chicago press
