The American Red Cross works with many areas that have issues with safety and help with disaster reliefs. The American Red Cross is known to help around the world with volunteers traveling with them to help out. The American Red Cross helps Bangladesh out when needed; they have several plans in place as to how they help Bangladesh. They want to help them by ensuring the children are safe. They prepare that students and the faculty with tools to help prepare for if there is some sort of disaster. They make sure there are people in charge that will ensure protocol will be used. Bangladesh relies on volunteers to help them be prepared for disasters and get information when something may happen. The American Red Cross provides residents with megaphones to help spread messages needed to make sure people take precautions. The American Red Cross also works with local governments to try and make sure they have strong ties to the government to ensure that everything runs smoothly if something happens. The American Red Cross also provides training for search and rescue, what to do in a crisis, and to ensure there are people in place for good coordination of the plans. Because of the American Red Cross they are able to maintain an existence and help those who are in need of food and shelter. Aid Organizations is a very important way to help others and ensure everyone is safe as possible.

There are upwards of 13 million people have been displaced due to the result of the conflicts in Syria and Iraq. Currently the NRC is providing assistance in the form of shelter, education, water, and legal help to more than one and a half million people in the Middle East. The people in Syria do not have adequate running water or sewage system. This causes them to receive clean water, nor for waste to be removed from their homes. NCR has assisted them with the repair of water and their sanitation infrastructure. Children displaced from the conflicts haven’t been receiving education. The NCR has helped to rebuild schools and community centers so students can continue learning.
There are many areas of the world where the most basic needs like clean drinking water, proper sanitation and medical care are just not available. When disaster strikes, the people living in these already disadvantaged areas are thrust into situations where death is almost always imminent. Reach Out WorldWide (“ROWW”) was started by a group of 6 men in California. They flew to Haiti and volunteered to help in whatever way they could after a massive earthquake devastated the country on January 12, 2010. While working in Haiti as medical aid volunteers, the group recognized the need for skilled people, supplies and urgency for a faster response when natural disasters strike.
The Red Cross has always been handled by volunteers and charities. It doesn’t work as a business but as a humanitarian organization. It is impartial, neutral, independent, voluntary, united and universal.

From that perspective, I will highlight the following programs that Save the Children does here in the United States alone. This organization have four main programs. First is health and nutrition, second is education, third is emergencies, and fourth is hunger and livelihoods. For health and nutrition, Save the Children is visiting schools, and other institutions giving lessons about balanced food and healthy food choices. In addition, education contributes 22% of their main programs. They have school-based literacy programs for disadvantaged students from kindergarten through 6th grade, specifically in reading, math, and science. They also provide tools and support schools in this advocacy. Another, in times of emergencies like natural disasters, Save the Children is visible. During the floods in the Gulf Coast region, they were there to give emergency assistance. The organization provide child-focused emergency plans, trainings, and emergency resources in preparation for coming disasters. Moreover, on the hunger and livelihoods aspect, the organization believes in not just giving fish, they also teach families how to fish. This in my opinion, is commendable. Not all organization have this advocacy. It promotes families to stand and support their families and not just depend on aids from private and public sectors.
Liam Williams once said that Understanding is the key to true knowledge. I believe this to be true in the event of a disasters. Everyone responds differently to disasters and knowing and understanding the effects; we are able to better prepare ourselves to help others. I learned from the video that understanding the impact of disaster on children is important because of these three things: it provides purpose and direction so your intervention won’t be haphazard, you can teach others so they can develop appropriate expectations, and you can explain to the child or children in order to help them not be confused or worried about their symptoms and issues. Since there is a shortage of workers after a disaster it is good idea to share the knowledge you have gained to others so

Natural Disasters can occur anywhere at anytime. Some are more predictable than others, but they all bring hardship to everyone’s life. Examples of natural disasters are Earthquakes (Haiti 2010), Tornadoes, Tsunami, Hurricanes, Wild Fires, Winter Storms, Heat waves, Mudslides and Floods. Regardless of what kind of disaster occurs, bottom line, everyone needs to be prepared mentally and physically to deal with the aftermath. Education is the first step to prepare you to deal with any major disaster. Three of the major disasters that can potentially disrupt normal day to day operations in our lives, are Hurricanes, Tsunamis and Tornadoes.
Hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and other naturally occurring disaster will come in surprise and will cause damage to infrastructure and loss of life. Even though many natural disasters are unpredictable, “it is possible to assess the circumstances that increase vulnerability to a natural disaster ahead of time and take steps to prevent complications” (Harkness and DeMarcus, 2016, p. 407). Coordination with community leaders and providers is essential to effective preparation and successful disaster response. In instances of catastrophic events, leaders are needed to direct people and ensure that everyone is safe and all areas are attended. Schools, hospitals, public and private companies to consider preforming drills or simulations in preparation for disasters such as. Many counties have such drills which sometime involve local hospitals, emergency personnel, and local high school students acting like victims with certain issues like head injury, burns, and other injuries which can occur. The television and radios do emergency testing which reminds watchers monthly the sound and the protocol that occurs in an emergency.
Social media has become both popular and crucial in crisis and emergency communications. Responders are not only communicating to their public through social media outlets, the public is communicating with each other, and with responders. Individuals are able to provide important information on disaster impacts, including location and imagery, using nothing more than a smartphone equipped with a camera and GPS locator. One particular technology from Ushahidi offers an interesting way for responders and affected individuals to communicate with one another in the course of a disaster response. The Ushahidi BRCK offers an application of technology that, while not originally designed for use in the emergency management field, has an application in the response to a disaster. This and other technologies contribute to the ever changing way responders and individuals communicate.
The purpose of this CERT IS-317 course was to prepare individuals not part of the professional disasters relief field to help in the event of a disaster. These everyday individuals become part of a team that can aid in preparing their families, neighbors, and coworkers for the threat of a disaster. CERT program participants become familiar with disaster preparedness, fire safety, hazardous chemical awareness, disaster medical operations, terroristic threats, and search and rescue procedures. Following the completion of this course and along with hands-on class room course experience the CERT participants will be valuable aids to professionals during a disaster (CERT Training Manual, 2011).
DISASTER MANAGEMENT : ROLE OF INDIAN ARMED FORCES IN DEALING WITH DISASTERS IN COASTAL REGIONS OF INDIA
Bangladesh has been working to improve its country because it is one of the poorest ones in the world (Islam, 1992). It is one the world’s most densely populated countries with 161 million people. Forty-three percent of the people there still live there and it till has one of the highest prevalence of child malnutrition in the world at 41% (Bangladesh, n.d.)). Foreign aid has been given to the country to try and help get them out of poverty. From the period of 1971 to 2012, Bangladesh received about $56.5 billion in foreign aid (Hossain, 2014). The annual flow ranges from $1.0 billion to $1.5 billion (Quibria, 2010). The United States contributes about 6.29% of the foreign assistance to Bangladesh as bilateral donors (Hossain, 2014).
Of the four phases of emergency management, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery, perhaps the place that individuals can make the biggest difference in their own state of resiliency and survival of a disaster is in the preparedness phase. Being prepared before a disaster strikes makes sense yet many people fail to take even simple, precautionary steps to reduce the consequences of destruction and mayhem produced by natural events such as earthquakes, volcanos and tornados (see Paton et al, 2001, Mileti and Peek, 2002; Tierney, 1993, Tierney et al, 2001).
