Many factors have played crucial roles in the evolution of music. Music has evolved with the people listening, the freeing of slaves, the ending of wars, the fight for equality. The birth of the blues was influenced by a singing type that was often sung by slaves while they worked. The era of Rock and Roll was influenced by societies fight to return to normalcy and the transition of families into the suburbs. While the birth of rap was influenced by the over the top rock artists and the desire to stands out.

One factor that influenced the birth of the blues was the freeing of slaves. Slaves had songs for all aspects of life, songs for counting, for punishment, work songs. Some examples of these blues songs would be Muddy Waters “My Captain”,
