George Washington, the first president of the United States, was born in three hundred years ago. There is no doubt that he is America Founding Father. He was known by other people because he is the greatest president in the United States. In the United States, the capital city, Washington DC, was named after George Washington. Why can George Washington become the greatest people in the United States and why can he be a leader? What kind of personalities can make him have indelible and powerful influence in the United States?
George Washington was the first president of the United States and one of the most important leaders in United States history. He gained independence for the American colonies and then unified them under the new U.S. federal government. Although it was difficult he created the Continental Army, which fought and won the American Revolution. After eight-year, his army defeated the British at Yorktown, Virginia, and forced Great Britain to grant independence to its richest overseas possession. After this victory, Washington was the most admired man in the United States. He could have done whatever he wanted but he decided that he wasn't going to use his power against the people but for the people. He continued to follow the weak and divided Continental Congress. However, he never stopped working for the union of the states under a strong central government. He was a leading influence in persuading the states to participate in the Constitutional Convention, over which he presided. Although he was tired of working so hard he accepted the presidency of the United States. No other man could have succeeded in making the United States into a lasting union. He fully understood the significance of his presidency. "I walk on untrodden ground," he said. "There is scarcely any part of my conduct which may not hereafter be drawn in precedent." During the eight years he was in office, Washington gave a great example of how the presidents to come should be. By far he is one of the greatest leaders in American history.
I believe that George Washington was the president that had the greatest impact on the United States of America. He really cared for the people of the United States and was also concerned for the outcome of the nation and its government. He was determined to do his best as the first president of the United States because he realized that the way he managed the executive branch would impact how all future presidents would perceive the position. I feel that this definitely had more of an affect on America than anything that President Jefferson or President Jackson ever did. It affected the people, the future presidents, and the government of America.
Before Washington was ever president, he was a great political leader. He showed his tremendous leadership skills on the field of battle. He learned the delicet yet rough art of warfare serving honorably in the French and Indian War. His influence and the respect he earned during that conflict won him the title of Commander in Chief of the American Army when the Continental Congress created that role in 1775. When he ascended to the presidency some years later, he carried the responsibility of Commander in Chief
From the farm lands of an estate in Mount Vernon, Virginia, rose a leader with one of greatest magnitudes of pomp and circumstance in United States history. This man is George Washington, the United States first president. Known as a 'demigod' and 'the father of our country', he consummated many great achievements during his lifetime for this country. He led this newly formed nation through a war to gain independence from the British Monarchy. Washington shaped the office of the president not only for the ones to follow, but also to show the people what this new office and constitution was to bring. On top of everything he prevented a possible downfall of a recently constructed government through his foreign policy involving the neutrality proclamation of 1793 and controversial Jay Treaty.
After the Battle of Trenton, Monroe went back the college of William and Mary to study law. He served many positions in the U.S. including secretary of state, a member of congress, and a U.S. senator. Monroe was also the last president of the ‘Virginia Dynasty’.
After his father died in in 1791, William Henry Harrison stopped trying to become a doctor and proceeded to join the military. When Harrison first joined the military, he used his family ties with the Washington family and the Lee family to obtain an ensign rank, which is the lowest officer ranking in the military (Presidents of the United States (POTUS)). Although he started at the ensign rank, he was taken under the wing of General Mad Anthony Wayne who commanded Fort Washington where Harrison was stationed. Fort Washington was built to protect folks from Indians and the British. In The Battle of Fallen Timbers, the Fort was attacked and Harrison was a key part in the defensive line calling orders to the surrounding units. This battle was important because i...
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the eldest of six children by Augustine Washington and his second wife Mary Ball. The majority of Washington’s education came from his father and after his death when George was 11 years of age in 1743, his elder half-brother Lawrence. Young George quickly learned the trade of surveying and at the age of 16 in 1748 he joined a surveying party sent out to the Shenandoah Valley by Lord Fairfax, a land baron. For the next several years Washington would continue surveying in Virginia and West Virginia where he acquired a life-long interest in the west. In 1753 he began his career in the military when the royal governor appointed him to an adjutantship in the militia, as a major. The next year he became lieutenant colonel and then colonel in the militia. He also resigned that same year agitated by the dilution of his rank due to the pending arrival of British regulars. He would reenter the military in 1755 with the courtesy title of colonel. After bravely escaping death in the Battle of Monongahela he was awarded command of the Virginia military forces and charged with defending the colony’s frontier. Due to a shortage in equipment and soldiers this was quite an arduous task. Angered by governmental neglect of the militia and aggravated by not rising in rank he again resigned in late 1758 or early 1759. Washington then married Martha Dandridge Custis a wealthy widow and mother of two children...
Throughout his life he made many accomplishments that helped build this country to what it is today. Some of his most notable accomplishment was writing the Declaration of Independence and being the third president of the United States. Before all of that, Jefferson got his start as a lawyer in Virginia. He graduated the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg in 1762, and it wasn’t until 1767 where “he began working as a lawyer”. Almost a decade later, the American Revolution began, which was between the Americans and the British. This was a significant part of America’s history and also Jefferson’s. He was among the selected delegates in the Second Continental Congress, where they strategized ways to become independent from the British. Eventually they won the war and Jefferson began drafting the Declaration of Independence along with John Adams and others. Once it was complete, they signed and July fourth became the day where America was freed from British rule. In 1801 Jefferson was elected president on his second attempt for the office. After Jefferson’s presidency he continued to work. He “spent his post-presidential years at Monticello” and “helped found the University of Virginia”. At 83 years old Jefferson passed away on July 4, 1826, on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of
He was born in Moreland, Ohio. His father died while he was an infant, and James was often teased by his peers for this. He ran away from home, but had to return because he got sick. His mother convinced him to go to school. James graduated from Williams College as a salutatorian, as well as Hiram College, where he later became College President. In 1861, he was commissioned as a lieutenant colonel in the Union Army. He rose through the ranks and became brigadier general, and commanded a brigade during the Battle of Shiloh. While the war was going on, he won a seat in the Senate and continued to stay there for 9 terms.
