Honey Nut Cheerios claims that their product can help to lower the cholesterol. Before starting the argument about lowering the cholesterol, we have to know what is cholesterol and how it works. Cholesterol is a waxy fat, which can be found in every cell of the body. Our body needs cholesterol to make hormones, vitamin D, and substances that help to digest foods. There are two kinds of lipoprotein that carry cholesterol throughout our body, which are low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and high-density lipoproteins (HDL). LDL cholesterol is called bad cholesterol and HDL cholesterol is called good cholesterol (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute). The two sources of cholesterol are our body and the food we eat. Moreover, Cheerios is cholesterol free and can be a part of heart-healthy diet to reduce heart diseases. It does not contain any saturated and trans fats. As it has no saturated and trans fat, so it is clear that if we eat Honey Nut Cheerios then it will not increase the cholesterol. However, it does not mean that it helps to lower the cholesterol. The National Institutes of Health recommends that eating ten to twenty-five grams of soluble fiber daily can reduce LDL cholesterol. In one serving of cheerios contains less than one gram of soluble fiber. Therefore, we have to eat ten bowls of cheerios daily to reduce the LDL cholesterol effectively
