Computers, Ipads, and cell phones are just some of the advances in technology. These inventions have made human lives easier; however, they hinder the unity of families and a person's concept of actuality. Out of the recent advances in portable electronics, cell phones seem to be the product people rely on the most. Upon accessing this device, people forget the person who is physically with them and their current environment. An in-depth phone conversation distracts a human from his or her surroundings, and people tend to bump into one another causing potentially dangerous situations. This behavior is unacceptable because it is not only rude but harmful to others. People should use cell phones sparingly and be alert when they are accessing this device. Mankind needs to rethink the excessive use of technological devices and reevaluate what these gadgets are doing to personal lives of individuals. All progress in portable inventions is making existence easier for citizens; however, the manner in which a cell phone is being utilized is having adverse effects on society as a whole.

The mental zone into which a person delves when he or she is on a cell phone pulls a person away from physical reality. A lot of citizens have come to regard phones as an extension of themselves. Most humans use these products in restaurants, cars, movie theaters, buses, trains and even in restrooms. The best thing for people to do is excuse themselves when going to the restroom because it is inconsiderate to talk to another person during something that is private. According to a 2005 survey by BBDO Worldwide, “Fifteen percent of Americans have interrupted sex to answer a cell phone” (Leo). It is amazing that human beings would throw their partners aside to answer a phone. People do not need to disturb a face-to-face conversation to answer a call. Human interaction takes precedence. The introduction of a law could be put into place to limit the use of cell phones in public places, and it should be deemed unacceptable to use a cell phone in such settings as weddings, funerals, movies, classrooms, restrooms, churches, and libraries. If a call is so important it has to interrupt a person in the above situations, this person needs to excuse his or herself to a more private area or return the call at a more convenient time.
