The National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) has created a federal policy design to aid the homeless and spread awareness of the situation. Their main concern was to enhance the ability of certain programs to prevent and end homelessness for low-income families. Providing cheap and affordable housing is obviously a major factor in helping to curb homelessness, yet it is still inadequate in dealing with the root issues (National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2012). However, these policies are not making any progress because homelessness is still on the rise. All through the San Fernando Valley there is a considerable lack of space in hostels and housing accommodations where a homeless person can find shelter. There are waiting lists that may go on for months or even years, with little hope of getting shorter. Housing segregation is as the taken for granted to any feature of urban life in the United States (Squires, Friedman, & Siadat, 2001). It is the application of denying minority groups, especially African Americans, equal access to housing through misinterpretation, which denies people of color finance services and opportunities to afford decent housing. Caucasians usually live in areas that are mostly white communities. However, African Americans are most likely lives in areas that are racially combines with African Americans and Hispanics. A miscommunication of property owners not giving African American groups gives an accurate description of available housing for a decent area. Today everyone has the right to own land, a home, and start a family of their own otherwise known as the American Dream. Unfortunately this was not always the case as blacks, Hispanics, and other minorities were discriminated upon in the early 60’s to the late 80’s and even still today.
Obviously a question that will arise is where the funding will come from, well mainly from the lovely thing called taxpayers’ money. Its time they put a stop to seemingly wasteful projects and integrate it to ones beneficial to the society as a whole. Thereafter, once they are housed the assistance program will continue their support by linking them with employment, and attaining rapid access to other needed services such as Medicaid, and food stamps. Some people simply require a little push to get them back on their feet. Once affordable housing is made more available along with the assisting that helps maintain it, all excuses should be out the door.
The city of New York deserves not only affordable housing for the middle class, but more options for lower class citizens as well. There are several issues with affordable housing, one is there isn’t enough of it to go around and people are being forced into homelessness. This problem has put an even bigger strain on city social services, and there needs to be a solution implemented. The reason there is not enough affordable housing is the lack of real estate. This problem began when Giuliani was in office, he proposed a plan that would solve the city's property tax problem.

In my experience as a real estate sales representative, I have looked at many rental properties that are owned by people that are commonly known as slum lords. These units are in disrepair with leaks, mold, mildew, holes in walls, ceiling and poor floor coverings. Many people are afraid of pushing these issues to have repairs done as they might lose their shelter or their rent could be increased. The statistics of today show its still racism in the United States with hate crimes of 47 percent including police brutality, salary wage between men and women, mass incarceration with young men in prison who in this economy have little advantages if they have a family to support can’t. Justice has not been served for individuals who experience racism encounters either with the police or being murder for the color of your skin. Racial Discrimination applies to specific economic and social opportunities that influence others to think or behave negatively.
Racism can take on many forms that plague the brain with irrationality that affects an individual’s thoughts and actions. Racism can be a physical form, through an external action, or can branch off into unethical thoughts. This is more known to be a discriminative thought, judging a person based on impressions. This social problem can also be ignored by the oblivious persons of the crowd. Many individuals speak out about how racial tension is long gone and forever forgotten ever since the first African-American was elected to be president in 2008, but this can be evidently proven false. The housing in Los Angeles is not enough for the population and the current policies have not focussed of the solution to these problems (Varady et al., 2005). Providing temporally housing and short-term jobs to the chronically homeless people does not reduce the number of homeless people in the city but only covers the problem for a while. Acting to the urgent of those without shelter for long is important but solving the root to the problem is what needs to be done. The government of the United States pays private landlords rent for the sake of the enlisted Section 8 beneficiaries but most of the house owners are not in full support of this move. Most of them prefer to rent their houses at the market rate. There are other more homeless people who have not benefited from this policy because they do not qualify yet they still have shelter. The trend in the rent is a cause for alarm and the number of homeless people will increase as soon as more are unable to afford rent and face evictions. The government continues to subsidise rent through Section 8 policy but the society should take up the challenge of contributing towards reducing homelessness. For hundreds of years, racial discrimination has been occurring in our society affecting families and underprivileged kids. Therefore, the racial slurs and the actions towards one another is based off bias, where we grew up and how we were raised as a child individually. From past experiences, to our current lifestyle, there will always be a discriminate person or group protesting and starting new revolutions because of the hatred and undoing actions that have occurred in our past society. Racism and bias opinions are understandable because they derive from from a person’s cultural influences, exposure to dominant racial organizations, and the tendency to conform to expected stereotypes.
