The boy Dana, in the book Hoot is an extremely dark character because he is violent, he is a bully, and most importantly because he is a delinquent. The first reason that Dana is an extremely dark character is that he is violent. In the book it stated, “at an instant two big sweaty hands closed around his neck.” (Page. 14). Dana had choked Roy on the bus and wouldn't let go of Roy and that is known as violence. Also, “as Dana yanked Roy on the floor, Roy looked desperately groped for something to defend himself with.” (Page. 108). Dana was being very violent that Roy needed to defend himself with. This shows that Dana was violent and that is why he is an extremely dark character. The second reason that Dana is an extremely dark character is that he is a bully. In the book it said, “Dana reached and snagged Roy.” (Page. 108). Dana was obviously trying to prevent Roy from getting away, so he can beat him up. It also stated, “how come you are not wearing your boots cowgirl?” (Page. 14). “I’ve never seen a cowgirl wearing Air Jordans.” (Page. 14). This is known as verbal bullying because he was calling Roy a “cowgirl” and was making fun of Roy’s clothing. In the book it said, “guess he’s got a record for shoplifting.” (Page. 198). Shoplifting is done by delinquents and this proves that Dana is a delinquent. Also in the book it said, “the boy lasted 17-hours before breaking out of jail with his new friend Mullet Fingers.” (Page. 286). He was in jail and broke out that makes Dana a delinquent. Dana committed a crime by breaking out of jail, and he must be the worst of the delinquents. This shows that Dana is a delinquent and that is why he is an extremely dark
