Executive Summary Load Signature by instantaneous power waveform (IPW) is decomposition of appliance distinctly operates or a load device base on instantaneous power waveform (IPW). In this project, I will try to design a program using software Matlab / Simulink or labview for instantaneous power waveform. It is convenient to convert the raw data collected form power meter to IPW for analysis. This technique can use on power monitoring, power quality and equipment health monitoring and energy saving. Introduction There is a research from the University of Hong Kong found that every year in Hong Kong due to poor visibility-related deaths of 1,200 people. World Health Organization air quality guidelines prescribed, average daily concentration of suspended particulates less than 50 is considered to meet the standards. However, the Government adopted since the 1980s "standard" is less than 180 a day, far more than the WHO guidelines. For the past few years, people have even complained about the air pollution in Hong Kong, because we can often see the pure sky and cloud less than the past, but also often urban visibility is low, so to Victoria Harbour views are greatly reduced. Although in the past few years, the government on this issue has done a lot of work, but the air monitoring stations still recorded a high pollution index. Thus, urban visibility is low, people are still disappointed about air quality. We must focus on this issue. Hong Kong is now facing the problem of air pollution and energy use are in fact closely related. Hong Kong Local Power Company had been relying on fossil fuels, but such fuels will produce pollutants. In the past decade, Hong Kong's total energy consumption had increased an average annual rate of 1.2 percent. 49% of our energy consumption is provided by electricity, the total electricity consumption amounted to 39.2 billion kWh. Although Hong Kong is no cold winter, and no heavy industry, but our per capita electricity consumption is still up to five thousand and seven hundred electricity per year, the air pollution caused by electricity cannot be ignored. If we want to improve our air quality, we must save energy by reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Nowaday, the electricity is human major necessary. In every family, there are many electrical appliances such as television, computer, refrigerator, air conditioner etc. The load profile and power consumption of different appliances are very difficult to identify which people often use different appliances at the same time.
The first method of insuring a correct reading is obtained is through using one wattmeter on a balanced load. Using this on an unbalanced load will lead to an inaccurate reading for power. To complete this method a reading with a wattmeter connected from a single line to neutral via the voltage probes and in line with the line on the current probes. By multiplying the value of the wattmeter by three the total system power is found.

When we think of air pollution we think of the refineries in our cities and the exhaust coming from our cars mostly. In reality there are many more pollutants that we don't think about every day. The six most common air pollutants are; “Carbon monoxide, Nitrogen oxides, Sulphur oxides, Particulate matter, Volatile organic compounds, and Ground-level ozone (nitrogen oxide and Volatile organic compounds reaction)”(David Suzuki Foundation). The fact is people are dying from air pollution and we are doing nothing to make it better, in fact air pollution is getting worse.
In an era of rising technology and increasing population, demands on the environment are continually being pushed to new levels. As a result, it becomes important for us to expand our knowledge about the environment and take appropriate actions to protect this element of most importance to human existence. One component of our environment experiencing some of the greatest abuse due to humans is the air. Air pollution has been on the rise ever since the beginning of industrialization. The climbing number of factories and use of cars worldwide are the major culprits of this environmental hazard. There are various gases released into the air that can be considered air pollutants, but one of the most prevalent and dangerous to the environment is carbon dioxide (CO2). Up to 95% of the CO2 produced is the result of natural processes (Burnett & Matthews Jr., 1998). The rest is a direct result of human activity, primarily through the burning of fossil fuels in the production of energy
One of the most dangerous environment issues Southern California is facing today is air pollution. This includes the burning of fossil fuels and natural disasters. Los Angeles is one of the most polluted cities in the world, and the most polluted city in the United States. I will research information about the causes, the effects, and the history of air pollution in the Los Angeles. For my research, I have relied mostly on, the school’s database and library, as well as current events.
Over the last two centuries, humanity has become increasingly reliant on fossil fuels. Over that time, the consequences of constantly burning fossil fuels have accumulated into a threat to industrialized cities. The burning of fossil fuels causes acid rain to shower on cities and ecosystems around the world, tormenting their inhabitants. The increasingly deadly pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels has caused the deaths of many people around the world by causing respiratory problems. Not only has the pollution worsened, but the supply of fossil fuels is not limitless – as humanity’s reliance increases the supply decreases, and that is all the more reason to break humanity’s reliance on fossil fuels. Fossil fuels should be replaced with cleaner alternatives because fossil fuels cause environmental hazards, are non-renewable, and are detrimental to human health.

Pollution is affecting many individuals and life, as we know it. We need to do something about how it’s affecting our world. That’s why I urge the issue that more people should realize that pollution is an issue that needs to be prevented because of its negative consequences. Which are health affects, the total destruction of environments, and the death of animals and plants. More awareness must be brought up amongst the people and they must realize the long-term benefits it has for the world.
Furthermore, in 2000, the Harvard School of Public Health looked at the human health effects from two fossil-fuel-fired power plants in Massachusetts. It estimates that the air pollution from the plants causes:159 premature deaths, 1,710 emergency room visits, 43,300 asthma attacks each year (Levy). Without a doubt, burning fossil fuels increases CO2 levels in the atmosphere and causes an increase in atmospheric and ocean temperatures, they also present an endangerment to living organisms. Strangely enough, wind is a form of solar energy.
Countries such as China and Japan need to enforce more powerful regulations on the amount of carbon emissions that they produce. China put in regulations just this last year and Japan postponed plans for a national regulations on carbon emissions, bowing to powerful business groups that warned of job losses as they compete against overseas rivals facing fewer emissions regulations. It’s not a good sign that large corporations can control how a nation regulates its environmental safety laws. China is finally planning to regulate their carbon emissions. This is long over due concerting that China ranks as the world’s number one carbon dioxide emitter, thanks in part to the massive amounts of coal the country burns. China currently builds a new coal-fired power plant at a rate of about one every week to ten days. The country’s coal burning levels are nearly on par with the rest of the world combined.
Air pollution is a type of pollution that can severely damage our environment as well as the earth’s atmosphere. Air pollution occurs all the time when the air contains many substances ...
Air pollution is a very large problem in bigger cities around the United States of America. In Los Angeles people are at the highest risk of death due to air pollution. Among the most populated areas of the country, Los Angeles had the highest estimated rate of deaths attributable to air pollution. (The Huffington Post 2014) New York City is another huge city that is highly polluted. The death rate due to air pollution is a little smaller in New York than Los Angeles but it is still a huge health risk in New York. Air pollution in New York City is a significant environmental threat which contributes to an estimated 6% of...
Many cities are currently affected by air pollution and Hong Kong is one example. Hong Kong’s air pollution level often exceeds the recommended air pollution level put out by the World Health Organization, and Hong Kong’s pollution index was at “very high” meaning that it exceeded 101, for 34% of the time (Hunt, 2011). Another example, when Hong Kong excee...
Every other day a new industries are being set up, new vehicles on roads and trees are being cut to make way for new homes. All of them, indirect way lead to increase in CO2 leads to melting of polar ice caps which increase the sea level and pose danger for the people living near coastal areas. Pollution can have an impact in our health not only affects people with impaired respiratory system such as asthmatics, but very healthy adults and children too. Exposure to pollution for 6 to 7 hours, even at relatively low concentrations, reduces lung function and induces respiratory inflammation and, healthy people during periods of moderate
There is no denying that the affects of air pollution are worst than visual pollution on the environment but this does not mean it is the worst form of pollution. The raised awareness of air pollution and other types means there is a lot greater chance of the problem being tackled whereas visual pollution is often overlooked. The population are beginning to take a serious approach in reducing the effects of air pollution. It’s becoming more and more popular to drive electric cars, cycle instead of drive, recycle materials and limit polluting the air where ever possible. Where as visual pollution is just continuing to get worst and worst more houses and cities are being developed whilst advertising continues to coat our communities. This will cause the problem to increasingly become worse and in turn decreasing the quality of life. It could also be stated that visual pollution contributes to air pollution, cities are commonly known for emitting greenhouse gasses due to the population and visual pollution starts at the production of major cities.
