Homosexuality is still portrayed negatively in the twentieth century, and it’s been going on since as early as 1930’s. We all talk about how we have changed and have accepted gay rights but we fail to realize there is still a long road ahead. The lesbian and gay community has come a long way but it still is painted in a negative light. We can turn on the television and see multiple shows with at least one gay or lesbian, but they are being stereotyped into what the world thinks it should be. For example, Modern Family has a gay couple that is very dramatic, love theatre, and are very feminine. Another example is Will and Grace, the two guys in that show are very feminine, dramatic, and overly sensitive. Not every gay man is like that, these are stereotypes and mostly untrue. People seem to think they have the right to judge someone and therefore bully someone else. Gays and lesbians are being bullied, and teased so much they are taking their own lives. We can turn on the TV and at times see a teen death and many times it was a LGBT student who was being bullied for their sexuality. The society says they have come a long way, but if that were the case all of this craziness would stop. We as a society have finally approved gay and lesbian marriage yet there are many who do not agree. I guess because people think it’s abnormal for someone to be gay they take it among themselves to be violent to others. People are judged for being different and are treated unequal in many ways. Why does the media stereotype gays and lesbians in such a negative way? They are humans like everyone else and just want to live a happy life doing what they love. I am wanting to research these issues at hand because I do not understand how we as a society can say we accept the LGBT community and yet we still treat them as if they are abnormal and mean less than anyone
