A Career in the homicide field makes a difference in my community because if we did not have Homicide Detectives, then cases would go unsolved, and or, murderers would not be charged. Tulsa homicide detectives work as hard as they can to solve murder cases. Murder in Tulsa triple the national average. Homicide detectives duties are to gather information correctly and accurately, then to make the appropriate charges. The requirements for a career in the homicide field are a high school diploma or an equivalent. Must have at least four college years in Law enforcement and criminal justice. They gather evidence and details to find out who committed the crime. For instance, John List killed his family on November 9th, 1971. He left them lying in the house for months, he then eventually changed his identity, List was then nowhere to be found. Many years later after the murders homicide detectives hired an artist to sculpt out what List would look like. The artist created the sculpture and it was then broadcasted on “ America’s Most Wanted”. Soon after the sculpture was broadcasted, On June 1, 1989 List was found, and charged with five counts of consecutive murder and five counts of first degree murder. Bloodstains evidence is used as evidence to determine involvement in a crime. Bloodstains evidence is important to detectives because they have to test the blood in order to complete the investigation. Also, bloodstains splattered can help detectives determine what kind of weapon was used at the murder scene. When detectives determine what kind of weapon was used they can then report the information and ask the community if they know who owns a weapon of that kind. Lerner, the author of “Bloodstain evidence” asserts that homicide detectives can determine the cause of a murder. He states “Analysis of bloodstains can also help reveal the nature of the injury and even the order that the wounds were received” (Lerner 624). Bloodstain evidence can help detectives determine a suspect's innocence or guilt. Homicide detectives can can seek innocence or guilt of a suspect by if the suspects blood matches the bloodstain found at the crime scene. Homicide detectives benefit the community because using bloodstain evidence in a case can help them generally have an idea of who the suspect is. With blood evidence detectives can reach out to the community and allow them to give them information on why a victim was killed.
