Homework
Is it not amazing that in today’s society students must not only spend seven hours in school doing work, but then they must go home to spend another five or six hours doing homework? Their grades are not improving enough to make a difference, and they are becoming extremely unhealthy. Not only does the average student suffer from sleep deprivation but many times malnutrition and emotional breakdowns. These are all caused by the over assigning of homework outside of school.
How much homework is there really? Some say that for every hour spent in class a high school student should spend at least and hour doing homework and studying for that particular class. Well considering that a student would have to wake up by 6 a.m. and does not get home until around 2:30 p.m. there just are not enough hours in a day. Seven hours of school would be seven more hours out of school this would mean that if the students came home from school, they would have to works non stop from 2:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. every day. This may not seem bad until a person realizes that in today’s world, the average student has at least one or two activities a week. The students may not be home until 5:00 or 6:00 in the evening, if not later and then would be required to stay up until 1:00 a.m. doing homework. This is ridiculous.
This homework causes sleep deprivation; without sleep it is almost impossible for the body to function. A student could easily become ill. With only five hours of sleep, a student is less likely to wake up in the morning, causing many tardies in school. If the students become sick they will miss even more school and the makeup homework will begin to pile up. This makeup work adds hours to the regular work. Eventually the student will become so tired and ill that the stress will become unbearable.
The average teenager in the year 2000 is already subject to extreme stress. This stress exemplifies with sleep deprivation and illness. Stress is an amazingly powerful thing. Any student can become stressed but with more and more homework begin added into everyday schedules, the stress factor can increase severely, causing students to become tired, irritable, ill, depressed, and even to have emotional breakdowns.
Many people often say that students, teachers, and parents, think homework should be banned, but multiple people disagree. This heated topic has been debated for many years. Some parents and teachers think students have too much. However, some believe their students receive too little. Few schools already have banned homework, but the majority of schools don’t. Some people agree with having ten minutes multiplied by the grade level of the student. As experts continue adding additional facts about homework, it is clear that homework can help students in different ways.
The first major step in healing America’s exhausted teenagers is to reduce the amount of homework they receive. Kids from the ages of fourteen to twenty-two alike are expected to play sports, join clubs, and hang out with friends – all on top of an average of three and a half hours of h...
"I didn’t feel [stressed] until I was in my 30’s. It hurts my feelings that my daughter feels that way at eleven" (Ratnesar 313). This statement describes the intense issue facing the American Education System today. More and more students are spending a lot of out of school time on enormous amounts of homework. The overabundance of homework is putting pressure on the students, along with their parents. Our nation has steadily focused on after school studying to the point of possible exhaustion. In this paper, I will attempt to explain how educators are relying on homework as the major form of education, and how the amounts are too demanding on the students.
When you think about school one of the first things that pops into people’s mind is homework. Basically if you have asked your parents or your grandparents they would say that they remember the homework load. Now we all know that homework can be beneficial but also can be very unhealthy with all of the stress that it causes. Over the years the homework load has increased because of the fact that schools think that they need to try to keep up with other countries in academics. And will doing all of this homework now be all for nothing later? The homework load has increased these past couple of years and it is causing a lot of stress on kids and overall is not helping their academics in the long run.
Think about how much homework we’ve done since we were in kindergarten, how many times we’ve stayed up and woke up half-awake, how many time we’ve kept others awake and how much paper we’ve wasted. If you think that is a lot think of all of the students around the world doing the same. Homework isn’t that hard, it’s just too much and there isn’t a lot that has any meaning. So, I think that homework is just a piece of paper that so many people work on just to get one single grade in that barely does anything to your overall grade, it should be a voluntary/ extra credit and practice kind of thing, which basically means kids and teens should have a choice whether or not they want to do it or not and if they choose not to and fail it’s their own fault.
It also includes examination of the theoretical and empirical studies in the field of advertising. Books, research papers, articles, reports, thesis etc. were systematically studied to develop the following review of literature. The review included extensive use of Proquest, Google scholar, Inflibnet and IIM- A library. The review of theoretical literature and empirical literature helped develop the below mentioned conceptual framework. This structure underlines the sequence of steps, which were undertaken for the review of literature. The first step was to understand the concept of advertising. The second step focused on understanding the effects of advertising. Scan of literature helped in identify the types of effects advertisements are known to create. The third step involved understanding the extent to which organisations are committing their resources to advertising. As logic dictates that measurement of effectiveness is more significant where the resources committed are more, the final step involved study of effectiveness measures.
Schools find homework beneficial to students, but the amounts of homework given needs a reduction. The schools have debated the use of homework, causing modifications to the system of homework. They have also looked back into times as early as the nineteenth century, to find old techniques that may help students in today’s world. Countless hours of research, has proven that the human mind cannot process amplitude amounts of information in so much time. Homework can lead to academic success, and it becomes crucial to a student’s life. Although, it causes students to become stressed and losing time to do other in school or out of school activities. In today’s times, teachers need to understand how times have change
Dr. Michael Nagel, an associate professor at the University of the Sunshine Coast, says homework has no scientific benefit and that it could even be bad for a student’s brain. “The adult brain does not fully mature until the third decade of life (a person’s thirty’s) and too much stimulation could cause unnecessary stress on a student.” An analysis conducted by Pearson showed that the number of hours spent on homework was between ten and sixty-five hours a week, with females scoring higher on the hours of homework, stres...
Nowadays, advertisements are everywhere embedded in our daily life. They are powerful resources that inform people the latest news about a particular product or brand in many different ways. Most of the people are being able to get more information and detail of a product from media, radio stations, newspapers and internet. Even though advertising is a big informative source, it also can be considered as a marketing tool to control the mind and desires of the consumers to manipulate and persuade them to buy things they do not need.
Nowadays, advertising is a very big business. Very often is the major means of competing among firms. Furthermore, supporters of advertising claim that it brings specific benefits for consumers.
Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
According to Shimp (2007), there are five important factors which determine the purpose of advertisement in terms of marketers’ communication with consumers. He listed these five factors as follows: “(1) informing, (2) influencing, (3) reminding and increasing salience, (4) adding value, and (5) assisting other company efforts.” (p.246). To clarify that, the first most important aspect is informing people which means company needs to enhance the awareness of the consumer about their products by mentioning its advantages and features. Advertising also affect the products in two ways. Firstly, by basic demand, which build consumer desires for old products of the company and secondly, refers to a new brand of the company. In addition, effective advertising can retain consumer’s mind fresh about the image of a brand which develops the trace of the memory where consumers have to choose between two or more products. Moreover, it may change the product quality, create new, well-designed and elegant product and change consumers view towards the product. Lastly, by effective advertising program, company may save money and time as s...
However, there are also hidden purposes behind those advertisements. One of them are to maintain the image of the company that produces the advertisement as well as barring new competitions to take over the monopoly of the company. Besides that, advertisement is also responsible to inform the customers about the changes in the product or service that is being advertised while at the same time to ensure that the customer would still buy the product or service despite the changes that are being made.
In today’s time homework is something that most schools find necessary to pile onto their students,
Advertisement is a type of marketing communication used to attract or encourage an audience to take or continue some action. Usually advertisement contains commercial offering, or conscious messages and information. Advertisements have ancient history. In early ages Egyptians used papyrus to make sales messages and wall posters. Later commercial messages and political campaign displays have been found in the ruins of Pompeii and ancient Arabia. Advertisements became hugely popular when it as carried over to commercial television in the late 1940s and early 1950s (Campbell and Thomas, 2014).
