This designation of being viewed as one of the best constantly encourages and motivates Homeland to maintain this lofty reputation and to better the services and offerings they provide to support their standing. A nursing cares facilities reputation is of paramount importance in the nursing care industry. Homeland is clearly aware of this fact and constantly strives to advance its professional standing in the local and state nursing care market. While they fully value the reputation they’ve earned in the industry, they have not made strident attempts to effectively include and utilize analytic tools or methodologies in their business practices.
Although Homeland is recognized as one of the best, they have not in any significant way acknowledged

In order to maintain its reputation, Homeland must thoroughly evaluate its processes and operations which indirectly or directly result in greater customer satisfaction and thus a promotion of the ideal reputation. Homeland can use Enterprise Performance Management analytic techniques to ultimately bolster is business persona. The company as whole as well as each individual department have key areas that must be critically evaluated. Inventory tracking within each department is important for financial savings as well as having what you need when you need especially as the dietary department is concerned. The dietary department undertook a challenge this past year to reduce its food budget. A great deal of food waste (ex. foods which expired before they could be cooked, cooking more food than necessary for a particular meal, purchase of unnecessary food items, lack of a price comparison being completed between competing suppliers, etc.) had been identified last year. The dietary department also must constantly track and react to any significant resident weight loss. Weight loss is a desirable outcome for many in the general population, but significant weight loss in an elder population receiving health care signals a red flag. This red flag can lead to resident family member concerns about the effectiveness of Homeland care, and its overall reputation as one of the best facilities in Central Pennsylvania. The nursing department is concerned with the presence of resident bed sores, falls, urinary tract infections, pressure ulcers, etc. In an article titled The Value of Analytics in Healthcare, the writer states The increasing regulatory presence of government places additional focus on accountability, governance and oversight on the industry. Determined healthcare systems routinely examine their environments internally and externally to locate significant trends and forces in the present and for the future which will have an effect on their performance goals and mission efforts. These healthcare systems understand who their stakeholders are, their needs and how best to meet those expectations and needs. These systems give attention to specific efforts on accomplishing goals that acquire opportunities in the whole environment while they continue to adjust their internal structures and functions. Precise aims are dealt with by uninterrupted sequences for performance improvements. Strategic directions for systems originate from the mission and directives. Strategic directions are identified by observing key stakeholders, addressing their interests and being proactive about responding to current, as well as, future shifts and trends in the systems’ entire environment (Skinner, 2001).
Evidently, the healthcare management discipline has interests that overlap (and can be used to study) the Green House nursing home model. The Green House Project offers unique insights regarding changes in nursing home management philosophies that can improve both, the health of residents, as well as the job satisfaction of CNAs. Since nursing home budgets, residents’ healthcare and CNA turnover rates, are important factors in nursing home management, the Green House Project is an excellent case study for the field of healthcare management, as
Their focus on wellness lines up with Healthy People 2020, and their aim to increase patient satisfaction, improve the health of the community, and reduce the cost of health care is commendable. Centura Health 2020 is a solid step in the right direction to improve health care in Colorado and Kansas. The one thing that seems to be missing however is a plan for employee satisfaction and nurse staffing. Although they briefly mention “intensifying their efforts around nursing satisfaction” (Strategic Plan, 2014), there does not appear to be any further details to address the nurse staffing issues or other nursing issues of interest. Research confirms that nurse staffing and patient outcomes are influenced by the culture of the organization. Magnet-designated hospitals provide a culture of quality and are recognized for excellence in patient care, excellence in nursing, and the ability to attract and retain nurses (Huber, 2010). While Centura health is focused on excellence in patient care, they seem to be missing a critical piece of the puzzle. Excellence in nursing and attracting and retaining nurses are factors that are set quality organizations apart from everyone else. This oversight could make the difference in Centura Health achieving their
The magnet recognition program began in the early 1980s as a stride towards promoting nurse retention in the United States. Administrators, directors, staff nurses, and hospital administration gathered together to discuss the essentials of hospital designation. The original research, gathered in 1983, was targeted to identify successful nurse retention. In 1993, the ANCC approved the standards set forth in previous research to become standardized utilizing the forces of magnetism. The 14 characteristics described by the ANCC as “forces of magnetism” define the structure of excellence within the healthcare environment. McClure & Hinshaw (2002), describe the following 14 characteristics that attract and retain nurses to magnet hospitals: “Quality nursing leadership, organizational structure, management style, personal policies and programs, professional models of care, quality of care, quality improvement, consultation and resources, autonomy, community and health organization, nurses as teachers, image of nursing, interdisciplinary relationships, and professional development”.

A chronic nursing shortage has been a reoccurring problem that impacts the future of our health care system and, even more so, the future quality of long-term care in this country. Currently, there are several federal and state initiatives, organizations, and agencies dedicated to solutions of the shortage. However, we continue to lack the necessary number of RNs needed to deliver quality care to a population with growing health care demands.

The publication from the institute of medicine has garnered much interest since its publication in 2010 focusing on the future of nursing and the implementation of this with in the nursing community. The nursing profession has over 3 million members and is the largest segment of the nation’s health care workforce. Working on the front lines of patient care, nurses can play a vital role in helping realize the objectives set forth in the 2010 IOM (Institute of Medicine). One of the recommendations is that of a nurse residency program for new nurses or nurses transitioning into new clinical practice areas. The area I work in is home health and this is a growth area the need for a residency program cannot be over stated home health is not the
A hospital that obtains magnet status displays “knowledge and expertise for the delivery of nursing care globally” (ANCC, 2008). Magnet status means displaying professionalism in models of care with nursing leadership, organizational structure and evidence based practice. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) provides a model to help aid visually with understanding the components a hospital must achieve to be considered magnet. This 5 component model was designed “to provide a framework for nursing practice and research in the future, as well as serving as a road map for organizations seeking to achieve Magnet recognition” (ANCC, 2008).
Some aspects of the nurse’s job have been made easy and facilitated with the aid of other well trained professionals within their working environments. According to the American Nurses Association (ANA) (2012), registered nurse’s performance has greatly improved over the years as a result of their coordination and partnership with the health care system with other health care providers. As a result, registered nurses are today seen to occupy important leadership positions in the healthcare system and they participate when they are making decisions for patients as well as for other

In order to review performance and improvement, data are compressed into an easily interpreted dashboard. A compiled dashboard with highlight the variances compares them to both historical institutional data and to benchmark a facility against similar facilities. Organizations are able to focus on areas of needed change by interpreting the raw data and analyzing trend (Brown, Aydin, & Donaldson, 2008). The purpose of this assignment is to review a provided dashboard and develop a nursing action plan that will remedy the deficit in the data
In this paper, I will try to discuss and talk about three ideas which can be implemented in nursing homes. I will do my best explaining why it is important to healthcare administration, and why should it be implemented in nursing homes or any other healthcare facilities. Nursing homes and other long term care facilities are new things to me. I was confused at first when I started studying HCA because I had no idea what the differences between LTC facilities are. I am from Saudi Arabia and these types of LTC facilities are not in our healthcare system yet. Most of older people rely on home healthcare services. This paper will discuss how homelike atmosphere, technology, and marketing are important to nursing home management and why it should be implemented.
To briefly summarize, the report acts to identify nurses as an important faction in enabling access to high quality, affordable health care. This was supported by the development of four fundamental recommend...
