This past school year I was chosen as the Jesuit High School homecoming queen. This picture captures exactly how I was feeling at the moment I received this award. After many years of cheering and volunteering for Jesuit High School, I finally felt that all my hard work had paid off. As you can see in this picture, my friends shared in my excitement as they took pictures of me. My face perfectly depicts the emotions I was feeling at that moment. I was still in complete shock when I was acknowledged by my friends. I did not expect this award at all, and was in shock when I was chosen. In this moment my best friend and I facetimed our other best friend because she could not attend the game. She answered the phone and started screaming in excitement.
My middle school’s dean smiles while handing me my certificate. I gave her my best fake smile and stood in line with the rest of my classmates who made the honor roll. I put my medal around my neck, held my certificate in my left hand, and put my right arm behind my back. I can’t believe I left my jacket in my mom’s car.
As the lights flashed and the representatives walked down the red carpet the audience was awed by the sweet smiles and mature beauty that radiated off the couples. They respectfully encapsulated the love and Christian faith of our school as they all clapped for our homecoming king and queen. There surely was a reason they were voted representatives for they showcased sweet attitudes all night long, smiling, hugging, and enduring long periods of picture taking and never complaining. After the red carpet showing of our homecoming court everyone enjoyed delicious fruit punch and a couple slices of the cake all while talking and simply enjoying the beautiful decorations and hollywood themed atmosphere. In the film Heathers, we meet the protagonist Veronica; who finds herself friends with the incredibly rude yet “popular” girls and on top of the social food chain. It is evident from the beginning of the film that Veronica is unhappy with her life and has a strong desire to bring about social justice amongst her peers. There are several different forms of narration used in Heathers. One of the first forms that is employed is through Veronica venting her feelings in her journal. As Veronica writes, there is a voice over that is speaking what she is writing with equal passion. There have been many drama queens in this world. As it turns out, one drama queen in particular was actually a real queen. Her name was Mary, Queen of Scots. Mary had lots of drama throughout her life and it is was this drama that ended in her execution.
Loyalty is like glue, since it keeps the camaraderie in a relationship intact. If someone breaks the loyalty, then that trust and camaraderie are damaged as well. But yet, one can remain loyal without sacrificing one’s needs or desires. Examples of this have often appeared in modern day literature. For example, take the Tillerman siblings from Cynthia Voigt’s novel, “Homecoming.” In this novel, the oldest sibling, Dicey, has to take care of her three younger siblings after their mother deserted them in a mall parking lot. In addition, Dicey has to lead her siblings to her aunt’s home in Bridgeport, Connecticut, which is well over 60 miles away. At the beginning of the book, I believed that Dicey had to sacrifice everything she loved to keep her siblings close and together. But, as the novel goes on, you see that Dicey did not have to give up as much, since the one thing Dicey treasured the most was her family. Sure, they did make her mad and annoyed at times, but she loved them, and all she wanted was to keep them safe. Her love is what made her so allegiant toward getting to Aunt Cilla’s home. A similar situation applied for the siblings. Sammy, the youngest child, was a real, “mama’s boy.” You can tell that when their mother left them, he was the child that was in denial for a while. “Go on, because nobody cares about me except Momma, and Momma will come find me but she won’t find you, so you ahead (Pg 41).” But eventually Sammy finally admitted that Momma was gone, and that made his loyalty to Dicey even stronger. He fished, cared, and even stole so his family would be safe. In this example, loyalty kept the Tillerman siblings close together. But, even in a more futuristic, fictional story, this concept exists.
This recognition I received in 2015 sets me apart from other cheerleaders. Cheerleading is my passion and something I hope to never stop doing. I hope that once my time comes to an end, as a cheerleader I have the opportunity to be a head coach. Since been awarded I have noticed that more cheerleaders regardless of age, or level have come to me as their mentor seeking out advice on cheerleading. I am glad that others see me as someone they can come to, to seek advice, because I have been in their positions before at one time or another. I love to help out others in any way possible especially when it comes to something I am very passionate about. Recently, I have been able to become an assistant coach and I feel that being looked at as a mentor helps me tremendously, because they know that I am there to help them in as much as possible and that I know what I am talking about when it comes to cheerleading. I hope that by the time I graduate I will have impacted in a positive way all of their lives as
It was my final moments as a Chelsea High School cheerleader. My final banquet had quickly approached. It was then that I realized I was not ready for the season to be over. I stood in front of my friends, fellow cheerleaders, and their families as they watched and waited for me to recite my last words as the season came to an end. It took hours for me to write about what my teammates and my coaches meant to me. I did not want to sound too nostalgic since I’m not the emotional type, but I also did not want to come across as indifferent. It was a difficult task but I knew I could accomplish it.

Out of nowhere my name got called to claim the award of “Most improved student of Class of 2014”. I was so proud of myself, it felt so good to know that I achieved something that I really wanted. I knew I could do something if I put my mind to it, and I did and I was so proud of
While we headed down to the mat, I could see all the other cheerleaders nervous as can be. Because all the teams in the arena had to go down on the mat, it was very crowded and hot. When my team found a spot on the mat, we danced like animals along with the music that was playing. After all the teams got on the floor, we all sat down and listened quietly while we heard the announcer announce the awards. Because of all the teams in each division, the announcer only announced the top three so it will go faster. After a while, it finally got to the division that my team was in. As we bow our heads and hold each other's hand tightly, we listen carefully. As each name was called, I got more and more nervous. After the last team name was called we let go of each other’s hand and looked around and cheered for everyone who did make it in the top three. Even though we didn’t make the top three, we were still excited for the other
Several summers ago, I made my first All-Star baseball team for a local little league. When I heard that I was picked, I was overwhelmed with happiness. A lot of my friends and teammates in years past had made the team, but never me. I was finally selected by the head coach of the All-Star team, and considered it quite an honor.
The team was ready, we had been working extremely hard for the past seven months for this. We were all in great shape and very rested. A few of the returning players were meeting me at my house to carpool to the final game of the state championship tournament. Everyone knew that the hard work had paid off when we won the semi-final game the preceding day.
“The future stretches before me, waiting for me to create the work of art that will become my life.” We have entered an age for celebration, an era to memorialize who we were, who we are and who we will eventually become. Celebrate this milestone greater than all the others, for it is the time we have spent here in our high school careers that will always be held close to heart.
If the whole world were to have the character of these athletes, the world would be a better place. I wish the athletes luck in their lives, and I would like to thank them for coming to our hometown. It was an incredible experience to get to work one on one with these athletes and to see them play. Then, I heard everyone scream “Surprise!” I could not believe my eyes. There was decoration all over the living room, a cake on the table, music and a big bouquet of pink flowers. My eyes start tearing. I was delighted and humbled by how lucky I was to have such an amazing family. I ran up to my parents, my three brothers, and sisters in law and hugged all of them. We started singing and dancing I cannot forget those moments of my life. Then I realized time was running and that I still had to go to my cousin’s house to do my makeup. I rushed to her house leaving my family at home, so they could get ready, and we could later celebrate after the graduation.
