Home security has become as much of a security risk as corporate security in today’s times. With wireless technology and small network devices become more popular, the need for security becomes more important. Looking at levels of security in homes and corporate environments are blending into the same. One now has to deal with internet in the refrigerator, home computers, hand held devices and the list can go on, smaller devices are now moving into the corporate environment and replacing some areas of desktop and even laptop computers.
My area of concern in this project is to take an inside view at corporate security and the many different ways security is so important in today’s fast paced computer age. Starting with the Firewall, the firewall will regulate the incoming traffic from the internet service provider.
Firewalls provide protection from the outside attackers shielding computers and networks from malicious and internet traffic such as Denial-of-Services Attacks (DOS) and with users who have their connections always on like not logging off computers at end of day or end of week of work and home DSL or Cable. Firewalls are both hardware and software in nature. Hardware firewalls go between the inside of the network providing protection between the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and the internal part of the network. Firewalls are a very important device on a corporate network in the starting of the security process. Then I will go into why exactly not protecting your wireless can be so dangerous with some descriptions on the most dangerous wireless attacks out there today. Finally, I will then discuss how we can better prepare for these types of attacks with a synopsis on several effective security methods that will help to ensure data is securely passed and kept hidden.
