One obstacle I had was part of my graduation project. For this project we were split up into groups and given a specific aspect of the Holocaust to research, my group had the rise of Nazism, which we would present to multiple groups from the community. My partners and I decided to present our topic in a museum style with a poster board that was the timeline of key events, a video, and two 'exhibits' , a person or event, per member. Presentation day came and our fifth member has not shown up yet. We tried to contact him but no response and this is troubling because we are missing the video file and the material for his exhibits. Thousands upon thousands of innocent Jews, men, women, and children tortured; over one million people brutally murdered; families ripped apart from the seams, all within Auschwitz, a 40 square kilometer sized concentration camp run by Nazi Germany. Auschwitz is one of the most notorious concentration camps during WWII, where Jews were tortured and killed. Auschwitz was the most extreme concentration camp during World War Two because innumerable amounts of inhumane acts were performed there, over one million people were inexorably massacred, and it was the largest concentration camp of over two thousand across Europe.
For my Project Learning Summary I chose to focus on two people and one movement that I believe have a strong impact on society today. Each of the topics has had an influence during their respective eras, and each proved that their work has gone onto make changes in the world as we see it today. I first looked at Darwin, for his work on natural selection and the significance it has had on science and religion. I then took another look at Booker T. Washington, and how his stance on integration of African Americans into a “white” society was at the end of slavery and what his efforts have done since. Lastly, I looked at the Feminist Movement and the efforts that were taken for improving equality as a whole in society.
I created each section, following the requirements of the project, while adding in slides that would help further the understanding of the case. Moreover, I was in charge of allocating each member a part of the project and did so by starting a group chat, which I would check and regularly correspond with each member, helping them find information in both academic journals and online resources. For my specific part in the slides I focused on the controversial aspects of the case such as the guarantee of acquittal and stereotypes that may come about due to the branding of battered women and the use of expert testimony in which I focused on the charge to the jury and the usefulness of the expert. I used the textbook along with online resources and academic journals to understand both issues and to solidify a comprehensive anecdote on the topics. Finally I proof read each of the group member’s work and formatted it so each side looked the same and were appealing. Studing the Holocaust is very importnant, there are many different categories in this topic that you can break it down into. Hitler's rise to power, the Holocaust itself, World War II, Anne Frank, and why it is important to learn about the Holocaust. These are vey large topics in this subject, they are important things to hit on. The holocaust caused a lot of confusion durnig this time period.
For some, it seems that the Holocaust in another lifetime, but for others it will be something they will never forget. Holocaust was a time for fighting. The Jewish would fight for the right to live as they were killed solely for being Jewish. The Holocaust began in 1939 and would continue through 1945. It was introduced by Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, although he did not act alone. His mission would be to “exterminate” all minorities, but most abundantly, the Jews. Based on information given by About.com, it is estimated that 11 million people were killed during the Holocaust. Six million of these were Jews.
Holocaust Facts The Holocaust has many reasons for it. Some peoples’ questions are never answered about the Holocaust, and some answers are. The Holocaust killed over 6 million Jews (Byers.p.10.) Over 1.5 million children (Byers, p. 10). They were all sent to concentration camps to do hard labor work.
We thought of doing a performance however one of us was uncomfortable with acting in front of others. After deciding with exhibits, we start brainstorming for designs. As we did more research, we saw the Ginling College was an important building during the Massacre so we decided to base our design off of the Ginling College. So we brought all our supplies from Walmart and start building at home. One of us measure a black foam board to make a roof-like title for the poster. On the other hand, one starts printing quotes and paragraphs to put the exhibit. We decided to color coded our words. For example, all quotes were outlined in black. We then start adding the titles and subtitles to our exhibit. Since it’s suppose to look like a college, we made the sides look like doors. We also decided to make a model of the Safety Zone so it’s easier to understand the story. We cut a cardboard into a rectangle and then measure the smaller picture. Although I did learn about William Morris and his designs in my history classes I learnt about the concept behind his design decisions and in depth analysis of Morris’s evolution as a designer only when I started working on this exhibit. It is imperative that you do research before arriving on any decision in regard to putting up any exhibit. Furthermore after analyzing the different options, it is imperative that you have facts to back up your decisions of the artifacts chosen. Every artifact that you pick for your case should have direct relation to your concept and it should be consistent among all artifacts. Overall a lot of thought should be put into the exhibit and the concept must reflect the ideas distinctly.
What did you learn about your topic you never knew? Something that I learned while studying this topic was the way the football program at Ohio State was started. I had no idea that this was the way that the program started.
In the late thirties and fourties, the Holocaust occured. The Holocaust was the mass genocide of eleven million Jews and other undesireables. We learn about this event to remember all who lost their lives, and make sure something this awful never happens again.
In the late 1930s and early 1940s the Jewish population was being extinct in Europe by the Germans, which were known as the Nazis at that time. If the non-Jewish people would have fought back it could have saved a lot of the Jewish peoples lives. Also you would hope that most of the Jewish people would do the same thing for you if you were forced to go to concentration camps ;therefore, most of them work for them for days without food so they do not have energy. So if there was enough people to fight back with the Nazis that were non-Jewish, you would also hope that they would fight for you if you were in their situation, and they were being taken prisoner for the Nazis own use of work then they would kill them.
The Holocaust is an important time in History and an important subject to be taught in school. Teaching the Holocaust explains to students that it started because of prejudice against not only Jewish people but also of disabled people, homosexual people, Slavic people, Romanian people, Catholic people, and many others. It also teaches students that silence and indifference to negative situations lets them continue by explaining to students that Hitler and the Nazi party rose to power and were able to carry out their evildoings because most people did not do anything to try to stop them.
The Holocaust is one of the most horrific events that has ever went down in history. Many people have spoken about their experiences inside the concentration camps. One survivor, Elie Wiesel, wrote a book on all the cruelty he suffered throughout his time in the camp . Public records have been used to prove the terrible crimes committed by the Germans and Nazis. In World War II, the Soviets had to liberate the victims from concentration camps. The history of the Holocaust is tragic and can be proven by testimonies from survivors, public records, and the liberation of the camps through the war.
We can learn about the Holocaust by examining the day to day experiences of one victim. We can learn many things just by one victims experience, such as how they lived, what they could and couldn’t do, for example, they could not ride automobiles but could ride the ferries, they couldn’t go to the movies, go to school, play any school activities. Anne Frank’s diary entries show us about the way individuals respond in time of chaos or danger, for example when one of then was out buying some things they needed and the Nazi police was doing a rousting and was going to look for any Jews out, they were extremely worried. The reacted fast and hid before Nazis soldiers captured them and took them to concentration camp like most of the Jews were.
I can hardly breathe in these dusty old cement barracks. The light is so bad that I can barely read the math problems the Nazis have assigned us. Only a few more hours until I can quit and go back to Plaszow with the others. For now, I just have to keep working.
