According to Holistic Health, "Holistic doctors recognize the value of more traditional medical approaches, but also offers you the chance to combine these with treatment options such as acupressure or acupuncture, homeopathy, nutritional counseling and supplementation, chiropractic adjustments, dietary changes, herbal remedies, aromatherapy, colon cleansing, oxygen therapies, yoga and massage to name a few" With a holistic perspective on healthcare, Patients with the same diagnosis get different treatment options. This is important for healthcare because patients would be encouraged to choose the best option that matches their lifestyle and take the best action at their own will, towards
Health promotion consists of all actions that encourage maximum spiritual, mental and physical functions despite of whether an individual is ill or well. Most of these plans are aimed at bringing positive lifestyle changes (Van Leuven, & Prion, 2007). A major core competency for all NPs is health promotion. Through regular screening, immunizations and counselling, NPs can guide their patients towards the goal of health promotion and disease prevention. As a future NP, my goal is to provide patient-centered, holistic care focusing on health promotion and sickness prevention.
In recent years, a new philosophy has been gaining momentum in healthcare. This philosophy focuses on treating the whole person, rather than just the physical manifestations of illness. While illness often presents itself in the physical, the mind and soul require healing as well. There is an increasing acceptance in health care of the concept of a mind-body connection, which acknowledges that emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and behavioral factors can directly affect one’s health (National Institute of Health [NIH], 2008). Healing hospitals utilize a multidimensional approach to health care that combines a practical and holistic framework with efficient functionality to create an optimal healing environment in which the philosophy addresses
Holistic medicine is the last option when all else fails. It brings you to a new mind set spiritually. It gives the patient a clear mind before their time comes. The holistic methods are very diverse and some may be ineffective. A holistic practitioner takes all aspects of a patient’s life into consideration in order for them to help the patient reach an optimal health.
2 HEALTH PROMOTION Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. To reach a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, an individual or group must be able to identify and to realize aspirations, to satisfy needs, and to change or cope with the environment. In the past, most individuals and societies viewed good health, or wellness, as the opposite or absence of disease. This simple attitude ignores states of health between disease and good health. Health is a multidimensional concept and must be viewed from a broader perspective in assessment of the client's state of health is an important aspect of nursing.
It states that nursing is distinct and different from medicine. She asserts that symptoms inform nurses of the presence of illnesses that allow for appropriate care and intervention. The theory states that when people break natural laws of the environment they cause diseases. These natural laws include fresh air, pure water, cleanliness, light and efficient drainage among other factors. The theory also asserts that overall improvement in the health of individuals and families lead to improved health for the whole society.
Also, medical equipment has developed to provide the maximum benefit and to prevent infections that's caused by sharing the same tools with every patient. However, medicine before and now still expected to provide health care by using the necessary process. Maybe in futures medical equipment, method ......etc. will develop to provide better health care but, will still as the same of past and present medicine because it will have the same aim which, is better life better health.
Holistic healing is taking an approach utilizing an alternative to conventional care. Holistic medical practitioners consider the whole person in the quest for wellness and optimal health. The philosophy is that by gaining proper balance in life one can have optimal health and wellness. Practitioners believe that the body is made of of interdependent parts: body, mind, spirit, and emotions. If each is not working properly then another would be affected and manifests into an illness.
Ensuring all programs within the health profession encourage and promotes cultural competency and ensures the availability and access to all services. Being patient centred in your chosen health profession is vital to ensuring your patient is receiving the best care they can get. Improving the quality of health care for individuals is what all professionals should strive for and educating oneself on being culturally competent is a sure way to improve individual and population health outcomes. To be culturally competent goes beyond open mindedness and understanding. It is about continuously educating yourself and those around you.
A more holistic approach, one where we consider the whole person and seek to improve health while minimizing the use of prescription drugs, would be beneficial to many people. Traditional medicine is primarily concerned with the body while a holistic approach to health is concerned with all aspects of a person: mind, body and spirit. In traditional medicine, the main deciding factor when prescribing drugs is the physician’s interpretation of results from laboratory tests along with a very brief consultation with the patient. A naturopathic doctor will also look at lab results but will typically spend more time talking with the patient than a traditional physician will. The naturopathic doctor aims to gather information about overall health, daily habits, nutrition, stress levels, sleep habits and so forth.
