Holiday at Fun Island Resort, Maldives

I awoke to a thud and the noise of what sounded like thunder. The

aeroplane had just landed in Male, the capital of the Maldives. I was

ecstatic when we decided to go to the Maldives on holiday, one of the

most romantic places to visit or so I am told.

Alex and I grabbed the bags from the overhead lockers and scrambled

our way down the busy aisle towards the exit. When we got off the

plane you could feel the intense heat almost immediately. The sun was

gleaming down on my uncovered arms and legs and I began to feel a

burning sensation on my skin.

The runway was extremely small compared to the ones at Manchester

Airport, 2440 metres long to be exact. I'd read it in a book on the

plane. It was like a small island floating on the sea.

We were directed to a bus that would take us up to the airport where

we had the go through Customs and collect our luggage. The bus had no

seating, apart from the driver's seat of course, so everyone was

standing up trying to grasp at something solid to hang on to while the

bus was in motion. There was so many of us on the bus, we were like

squashed sardines in a tin.

Once we had passed through customs and retrieved our luggage we were

told by our holiday representative to have a drink in the café outside

and wait until they announced our Island at which point we would then

board a speed-boat to reach our holiday destination.

The café was extremely busy and crowded and it didn't seem like there

were any vacant tables. I looked around and noticed that some people

were gathering their belongings as though they were about to leave at

the other end of the...

... middle of paper ...

... The planks

creaked in the darkness with each footstep we took. There was a slight

warm breeze that gently ruffled my neatly styled hair. We sat on the

steps at the end of the jetty which were a little damp from the sea

splashing over it. It was a tranquil evening. The moon's reflection

was glistening on the sea that was gently rippling. For a long time we

just gazed at the twinkling stars in the sky, pointing out to each

other the different constellations and then Alex began to gaze into my

eyes and smiled. He put his strong arms around me and held me tight. I

felt safe. He began to tell me what a wonderful time he had on holiday

and how being with me made it more special. At this point, thoughts

were running though my mind, I was thinking what's got into him, he's

not the soppy type, he's not going to propose, is he?
