Hitler and Nazi Germany
So many Germans supported the Nazi Party in the late 1920's and early
1930's because he offered a lot of jobs for the unemployed, he also
promised to make Germany powerful again and he promised to help big
business and force the communists out of power. He also gained support
by using propaganda; he put posters up round the streets, advertised
to mothers and children and used the radio to gain support. Hitler
also created an army that would terrorise the streets of Germanyand
resolve crime that the Nazi Party created in the first place. He also
showed heroism and organisation in times of chaos and disaster.
The unemployment figures of 1928-33 show that the number of unemployed
had risen over the past few years. When there was low unemployment the
people of Germanyvoted for the communists, in contrast to this when
there was high unemployment the German people voted for the Nazi Party
as they had been led to believe that Hitler could resolve the
unemployment problem in Germany. Therefore this shows that Hitler had
won the hearts and minds of the unemployed in Germany.
Adolf Hitler also used propaganda to win the votes of the Germans. He
put up such posters showing people suffering in vain, the poster also
contained the slogan 'Our last hope-Hitler' The poster is trying to
persuade people that Hitler is the only person who can help them,
therefore if the German people vote for the Nazi Party their pain and
suffering will be no more.
Another main reason why the Germans voted for Adolf is because he
promised to ban the 'Treaty of Versailles'. He promised to win back
what was taken from Germanyas a result of World War I. This made the
Germans more confident about Hitler and this meant he gained a lot
more support.
In the early 30's Hitler created an army called the storm troopers. To
gain more support Hitler created violence on the streets of Germany,
so his army could resolve it and show the German people that he was

Prior to the Nazi takeover of Germany, the nation had been suffering deeply. An economic depression, large-scale unemployment, and the shame of losing World War I had put Germany in a dark place. The Nazi’s were incredibly aware of this, and their propaganda at the time reflected a need to reunite the German people. Propaganda appealed to national pride, and putting ones country before themselves. Of course, a strong united people needed a leader that was just as strong, and the “myth of Hitler” would create that leader. Slogans like “One People, one Fuhrer, one Reich!” promoted national unity, and a Wochenspruch from February 1938 states, “The greatest of all sacrifices is to give one’s life to preserve the existence of the community.” Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will comes from this time period and helps form the mythological image of Hitler. Propaganda also focused on the good the Nazi party was doing. It discussed how well the Nazi welfare system was working, newsreels showed happy German people enjoying the benefits of the Nazi regime.
Hitler was superb at convincing people to believe everything he said. He promised the people a roast in every pot, security, and many more things. By promising the people security that meant that he would keep them all safe and that he can do a better job than anyone else. Adolf Hitler increased in support from bankers and industrialists. So, pretty much he had most of the people who had higher power on his side durning this time period. This opened another window for Hitler to get more peoplewho thought that they had nothing and their life was over to side with him. President Hindenburg did not want for Hitler to become the chancellor so instead he appointed Von Pappen but, Adolf Hitler did not agree nor did the Nazi's. hitler eventually did become the chancellor on January 30th, 1933 Hitler then banned all political parties. In 1934 the president died and Adolf Hitler forced his way into power. Now that he was the president he can change anyhting that he wants.
Hitler and the Nazi Party's Total Control Over the Lives of German People from 1933-1945
Before World War II Hitler successfully implemented tactics through propaganda to secure his position as the next German Chancellor. Without using propaganda to increase his popularity Hitler would not have been able to gain the support he needed to gain control of Germany. He manipulated the German people by stating that Germany needs to become united to preserve their freedoms and to keep peace throughout the country. When Hitler was campaigning as a candidate for Chancellor he stated in one of his speeches, “Show tomorrow your firm national unity… Support with me and the Reich Chancellor the principle of equal rights and of peace with honor” (Larson, p. 175). By using a manipulative style of speaking to the public Hitler was able to present himself as one for the people, showing that he prioritized them above everything else. However, this was all a trick to increase Hitler’s popularity so he could eventually become dominant over all aspects of German life. The Nazi Regime achieved this through strategic implementations of propaganda. This desensitized the public into believing Hitler could help Germany in its time of economic and political struggle. During Hitler’s reign in Germany, propaganda was his main method of control. He and the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, or Nazis, believed that to remain in control, it is necessary to prevent any and all internal unrest through strictly regulated popular opinion. The mission was to keep public opinion in favor of the Nazi party’s ideology. One of the primary aspects of their ideology was extreme anti-Semitism and racial inequality. Within years they were able to introduce this belief to nearly all of the German people through heavy influence by propaganda. Hitler was able to stabilize and dictate his Germany for years through propaganda aimed to control the lives of the youth, the opinions of the general public, and beliefs about the war effort and well-being of the country.
The 1940’s was a time of great conflict between the United States and Europe. This led to World War II, which began on June 14th, 1940 when German troops were sent to France to occupy Paris (Nash 500). Before the United States entered World War II many conflicts erupted throughout Europe such as the advancement of German troops into various countries (Nash 501-502). The main source of these conflicts was a man by the name of Adolf Hitler. Hitler was a power hungry man who had the drive to become a political leader (Nash 492). But, the ways by which he obtained leadership were repulsive. He struck fear into the eyes of those in which opposed his teaching and killed whoever stood in his way (Nash 493). Germany faced troubling times after World War I. Hitler looked at this as the perfect opportunity to rise to power. He turned a party that consisted of a small amount of workers into the National Socialist German Workers’ party, which later became known as the Nazi party. During the 1920s, Hitler performed many speeches in order to make the Nazi party better known. In his speeches he talked about eliminating the differences between the rich and poor in order to prevent divided social classes. This made his party strong, attractive, and it quickly gained many supporters (Nash 494). By August 1934, Hitler became the Dictator of Germany and began mass takeover of Europe and World War II began (Nash 495). Upon hearing his name many may think of all the negative things Hitler has done, but few fail to analyze just how one man created such controversy amongst a nation without being stopped. The question then lies how does a man reign over country and devastate it for years to come? Adolf Hitler, a man who excelled in persuasion and charisma was able to reign over Germany for years. Born in Austria April 20th 1889, Hitler grew up with many hardships in his life.

The people of germany were desperate due to the increasing rate of unemployment and the increasing political instability: they were desperate and needed a strong government.
After World War I, the social climate in Germany was depressing. The German people were humiliated by their country's defeat and by the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. The financial depression that resulted left millions of individuals out of work. The German government was weak, and the people sought new leadership. These conditions provided an opportune setting for a new leader, Adolf Hitler, and his party, the National Socialist German Workers Party. Hitler, reckless and powerful, was able to fan the flames of an ancient hatred into a wild and out of control holocaust (Altman 12).
The Holocaust was a time when many Jews and other "undesirables" lost their lives because of Hitler and the Nazis. The genocide lasted for twelve years, from 1933 to 1945, and about eleven million lives were lost durring this time. Even though the Holocaust is over, learning about it helps us understand how power can be abused.
Another key factor that played a role in Hitlers rise to power was after World War one as the treaty of Versailles took away Germanys colonies and forced them to pay 33billion dollars, to Britain and France. This debt in return completely bankrupted Germany and economically enslaved the people of Germany. Unemployment and inflation at the time was out of control. Ther German currency lost so much value that people were struggling to buy a simple loaf of bread. The reason the great depression helped Hitler was because he promised the people of Germany that he would rebuild Germany to its former self. He promised jobs which mainly came through the army, this in affect helped Hitler realise one of his other promises which was to take Revenge on those who left Germany crippled after the war. Adolf Hitler joined a small political party in 1919 and rose to leadership through his emotional and captivating speeches. He encouraged national pride, militarism, and a commitment to the Volk and a racially "pure" Germany. Hitler condemned the Jews, exploiting anti-Semitic feelings that had prevailed in Europe for centuries. He changed the name of the party to the National Socialist German Workers' Party, called for short, the Nazi Party. By the end of 1920, the Nazi Party had about 3,000 members. A year later Hitler became its official leader Führer. From this, we can see his potential of being a leader and his development in his propaganda.
