Nike is an athletic footwear American organization' which was established in January 1964. Nike was firstly found as the name of blue ribbon sports by two people, Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. And on 30th of May 1970, it was officially introduced as Nike. The organization conducts as a trader for Japanese shoe maker. • The first year of business in 1964, almost up to 1300 Japanese pair of Nike shoes were vended and earned profit of 8000 Dollars. They opened up their first store which was placed at Santa Monica, California. As the sales started to increase they decided to grow their firms on the east coast.
• For the advertisement, partners and John Brown were hired by the agency. And in the same year the company made a first brand ad in which it was mentioned that there is no finishing line but no product of Nike was shown in it. The Nike company made a progress in December of the same year and came to an existence publicly. Nike has got their 50% of their share in the United States.
• "Just do it" is one of a very popular slogan which was introduced by Dan Widen who is the co-founder of the Nike’s agency. This slogan was made for one of the campaign of Nike ad. Nike Inc which was originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports was founded in 1964 by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman (“Mathew”). Nike started off slow, however the development of new and improved training shoes was the stepping stone that began Nike’s success. In the later years, Nike opened a new platforms of shoes designed for Michael Jordan, and sponsored international sports teams which increased the company's popularity and lead to economic growth (“Mathew”). Nike’s main focus started as footwear, but now has expanded and influences the entire athletic clothing industry.
Since its creation, Nike has proven itself as a popular brand and it has created niches by selling products such as footwear, apparels and various types of sports equipment. This paper will attempt to trace the product development of Nike shoes from its origins in conception and design to the manufacturing and production process located in contract factories in developing countries to advertising and marketing of Nike as a cultural commodity and finally, the retailing of the footwear around the world.
Nike is a worldwide known business that many people around the globe are attracted to purchase. They make a variety of products ranging from shoes and clothes to sports gear, sports products, and many different accessories. Nike is designed for everyone ranging from infants to elderly. Because of their range of age for products, this makes them a huge competitor. Being able to appeal to all ages and styles of people.
Nike has always been a company that's been questioned ethically. People have heard about the stories of the sweatshops in Southeast Asia exploiting adolescent employees for unreasonably small amounts of money. The company also sponsors various sports events at national and international levels. The company slogan “just do it” is catchy and attract many people tom buying its products. This makes the company to grow continuously due to wide and stable customer base.
Many global companies like Nike, Inc. are seen as role models both in the market place as well as in society in large. That is why they are expected to act responsibly in their dealings with humanity and the natural world. Nike benefits from the global sourcing opportunities, therefore areas such as production and logistics have been outsourced to partner companies in low-wage countries like China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. As a result the company is limited nowadays to its core competencies of Design and Marketing.

Bowerman redesigned the Japanese shoe while Knight acted as the accountant and salesman, pushing their newly crafted sneakers at track meets and local shoe stores. Soon enough, BRS received a credit line and subcontracted it’s own shoe line. The Nike brand was born.

However based on the Asian economic crisis, this had adversely affected revenues, while regional layoffs were inevitable. Nike also performed well in the European market generating about US$2 billion in sales and a good growth momentum was expected, however, some parts of Europe were only slowly recovering from an economic downturn.
