It was settled by primitive peoples from ancient times back to the Late Stone Age (110 thousand years BC). Egypt is also famous for archeology and art, most notably the pyramids. Egypt is an Arab country located in the northeast corner of the continent of Africa. It borders Asia. The Sinai Peninsula is located in Asia. Egypt is an intercontinental country. The Arab Republic of Egypt borders the Mediterranean Sea with a coast of 995 km. Furthermore, it is bordered to the east by the Red Sea with a coastline of 1941 km. It required many steps. The first step is putting large stone blocks to the height they required. As the pyramid grew taller, the ramp had to be extended in length, and its base was widened, or else it would collapse. It is likely that for the construction of each pyramid, several ramps were probably used. The second step is the internal construction of Egyptian pyramids which consisted of a series of buttress walls surrounding a central core. The walls decrease in height from the center outwards; to be more clear, the core of the true pyramid is essentially a step pyramid. The internal arrangement added stability to the structure. Packing blocks filled the "steps" formed by the faces of the outermost buttress walls and casting block, often made of limestone, completed the structure of the true pyramid. The purpose of these pyramids were for tombs for the pharaohs and queens. The most famous pyramids are the Pyramids of Giza. These are a set of three pyramids that were built for the kings Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure.
Afterlife and respect for deceased pharaohs were important aspects in the Egyptian lifestyle. This was shown in the Pyramids of Giza by the use of various burial chambers, elaborate tombs, and human preservation for each pharaoh. Evidence of the importance of afterlife is provided by researchers’ discoveries of artifacts including articles of clothing and various items found in the tombs. It was believed that death was not an important event in life. It was just a transition from one life to another. Egyptians also had to perform many rituals before entering the pyramids. The great importance of these aspects is backed up by the grandeur of the pyramids and the amount of time it must have taken to build them.

For the past few weeks our social studies class has been studying ancient Egypt. We learned that there are three different kingdoms, the old kingdom, the middle kingdom, and the new kingdom. In between each kingdom there is an intermediate period. At every place we visited there was a monument built by the pharaoh that we studied about. Egypt is very interesting to learn about because there were so many different pharaohs who ruled in so many different ways and there are many monuments that lasted until today and will last a lot longer.
