As seen on TV’s everywhere, the presidential candidates and election itself has caused an uproar in the media with which candidate is better qualified as president of The United States of America. Over the course of this race to presidency, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both have strengths that would help and weaknesses that would deteriorate their campaign. The real issue with these candidates are the complications with their backgrounds. As a presidential candidate you don’t want to have any allegations in which both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have numerous amounts of. Throughout this paper the reader will understand the cons of each candidate and clearly understand what is up with the presidential candidates. First off, Donald Trump has many allegations. A main allegation that has impaired Trump’s campaign is the accusation of him being sexist, and having a few sexual assault scandals. This has been one of the most fascinating political seasons in recent history. The level of discourse and potential scandals on both sides has increased my attention level. Rather you support either of these candidates, both the fringe candidates from the left and the right both have struck a chord with a lot of people. Whether either of them wins their party’s nomination and becomes the president is still left to be decided. Mainstream political pundits and major social institutions have either condemned or flatly said that some of these candidates’ proposals are not feasible, but to the electorate that doesn’t seem to matter.
The U.S. president is a person deemed to be the most fitting person to lead this country through thick and thin. It’s been such a successful method that it has led to 43 individual men being put in charge of running this country. Clinton relies, in the second half of his speech, on the repetition of the word ‘private’, to redirect the guilt from himself to the nosey American people. He uses this as a shame tactic, in attempt to reinforce that he is not solely to blame for his actions. Clinton and Trump’s disapproval ratings are very low, but one has to ask, is there really a lesser evil to choose from? His language in the debate, like most of the time, was very simple and to the point. When speaking, he went for an “intense” (Media Literacy 342) tone of voice and word choice. He consistently used negative words such as: losing, stealing, and leaving to instill fear to the public. These simple words effectively got his message of negativity across to the public effectively. In using this intense technique, Trump presumably wanted the public to believe that he was extremely serious. For example, when he addressed terrorism, he claimed he will “...knock the hell out of ISIS” (First Presidential Debate). Trump’s simple and non “politically correct” language persuades some voters because they can relate to him. He succeeded on his part of sounding intense and aggressive. However, in my opinion his language in the debate was unprepared and somewhat uneducated compared to Clinton’s. The only time Trump ever suffered significantly in the polls was when Hillary ultimately secured the requisite number of delegates to push Bernie Sanders out, to become the presumptive Democratic nominee.
