Volleyball is an intense sport that is sometimes under appreciated. It takes a lot of skill, stamina, and teamwork to succeed at volleyball as this high school player can tell you.
Autumn Finney
Autumn Finney has become an overnight sensation because of her spectacular save at a high school volleyball game. The Decatur High School volleyball team was working on getting a point when they ran into a little trouble controlling the ball. Two players make fantastic efforts to keep the ball in play, but they can’t get it over the net. She ended up seeing the clip of Autumn Finney’s save and tweeted that she “could watch this all day,” and we can’t help but agree with her. Every time we watch it we’re astounded by it.

Response from Sports Center
In case you think (for some strange reason) that this is of interest to only lovers of volleyball, think again. The video caught the attention of Sports Center and other sports websites. This was the save that everyone - whether you’re into sports or not – was talking about. Sports Center even put the clip in their Top 10 segment the next day. They also tweeted about it. Autumn Finney’s intense save has garnered her some serious media attention. We’re going to assume that scouts will also be checking her out shortly, if they weren’t already.

She led the team to a Conference championship and a State Championship. As a Senior she was the #1 player in the nation, averaged a triple double with 31 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. For the second consecutive year in history, she led the team to a state championship and led the nation in scoring. All four years in high school she was selected to be on the all-state team, all-region team, and all-conference team. During the summers of her High School years she would continue practicing and playing for an AAU team.
What seemed to be a very long and difficult game, the Worland High School Varsity Girls come through to winning the game against Powell. Still remaining number one in the 3A division in the state of Wyoming, Worland has put up a fight regarding their loss against Lander last year at state soccer in Jackson, Wyoming. Worland’s very first game of the season this year in 2014 was against Jackson. The defending state champions were demolished by the Warriors, and Jackson also did not score a single goal. Majority of the girls soccer players this year are very young, only three seniors are on the team this year. As observed on April 4, 2014, the Warriors went against a stronger team in their division, Powell. Not only does Powell have bigger, stronger, and faster girls, but they also started worrying the Warrior crowd after they had put two shots into the goal of the goal keeper. With the score 2-2 it became more and more intense in the crowd. Only about 10 minutes were left in the game, and like last year at state Worland did not want to go into overtime because if there was no goal after overtime match it would lead into penalty kicks. As horrifying as it is to have that kind of pressure within about 6 minutes left of the game a goal was finally made for the Warriors! The score was now 3-2, and Powell was not happy. As the head coach from Powell was jumping up and down saying that they have this game motivated his girls. However, Worland put up a fight and as close as it was Worland finishes off the game with a win. An evaluation of the game was indeed a struggle to write on; however, Anna Hepp will give me information from her perspective of the game along with the another senior, Yesie Herrera.
Hope Amelia Solo was born on the 30th of July in 1981 in Richland, Washington. As a young child, she was a forward for a soccer team and showed amazing potential at a young age. She scored 109 goals while in this position and was peerless. Her real career did not start until her high school years which led to her being named an All-American twice by Parade magazine. Her college accomplishments led to her being named to the 2004 Olympic team (“Hope” 1). Hope attended the Univeristy of Washington for all four years of her college career. While in college, she earned NSCAA All-American honors in her last three years. As Paige and I walked across the field towards our team I felt euphoric. Four long years of work, sweat, and dedication had led up to this night. It was the perfect end to my senior year of softball. The scoreboard just beyond the mass of sweaty, screaming softball players read 15-0. This was the final score of the district championship game, a game my team had never won before. The applause and cheers of the fans echoed in my ears for hours afterward
We were going to win the game. That was the end of it. I knew it. We were the winners of that game. I stood up and yelled in a voice that even frightened me. I didn’t scream about moving our feet, or calling the ball, I screamed about how big of winners we were. I was done with moping. For seven minutes of my life, I had forgotten that I could do anything I set my mind to, and I had given up. The worst seven minutes of my volleyball career were those seven minutes in the third game of the final match at Brighton Volleyball Tournament. I had put my determination down to wallow in my disappointment. Disappointment needs to build determination. I had decided a long time ago that there were certain things in life that I could do better than other people. Those were my gifts. I use my gifts to my full potential.
I recently had the amazing opportunity to watch the University of Illinois women's volleyball team play Stanford, and let me tell you… THEY. ARE. AMAZING. Stanford has a six-foot-eight beast; her head clears the net when she blocks. I bet she's been nailed in the face quite a few times, but hey, if that's the only downside to being that tall and a volleyball player, then sign me up! I’ve chosen to play volleyball in college, but since I’m only five-foot-ten, I won’t have to worry about being smacked in the face when I’m blocking. Attending the game just two rows in front of me was no other than Charlie Rodman, probably the greatest volleyball coach I’ve ever encountered. Never having played, when Belleville West was looking for a new head volleyball coach, he began to read books and teach himself the game. He coached my mom when she was in high school and led her team to win back-to-back state championships in 1990 and 1991. No longer the head coach, he still helps run practices, comes to the games and tournaments, and whenever I have a question about what I did wrong, where to go, or a new technique, he’s always the first person I go to for an answer. He coached two girls who ended up playing for Stanford and the University of Illinois in the same year, so when I say he’s an amazing coach, I’m not sugar coating
Volleyball is one of the biggest team sports there are. It is big in the summer olympics and all around the world men and women play it every day. The game of volleyball was originally called “mintonette”, it was invented by William G. Morgan in 1895 at Springfield College in Massachusetts, they made it along with basketball. In 1957 volleyball was officially an Olympic sport, the first games were held in Tokyo 1964 and the first beach volleyball games were in 1996 Atlanta. In London 2012, USA got 12 silver medals. In the Olympics, the Soviet Union has won the most medals. The best country right now is Brazil, winning gold medals in London 2012. One of the best volleyball players from Minnesota right now is Tori Dixon who played for the Gophers
I have played volleyball for 5 years. I have played school volleyball for five years, and club volleyball for four. Throughout my years of playing, I have recognized a significant difference between club volleyball and school volleyball. I have played for two clubs in my four years of playing club. The first two years, I played for a club named Platform Elite. The last two years, I have played for Iowa Select, and this year I am playing my club season with Infinity X. Personally, I prefer club volleyball over school volleyball. Club volleyball and school volleyball can be compared in three different categories: price, competition, and “politics” within the sport and its’ players.
Volleyball represents my most meaningful commitment not just because I have invested so much into it, but also because it it’s a passion of mine and has been a part of my life since elementary school. The impact my coaches and teammates have had on my life has helped make me the confident and determined individual I am today. Volleyball also takes up a lot of time and there are many sacrifices that come with the sport and playing on a team. To keep up my skills, I have had to give up a lot of my free time and parts of my summer. Balancing school with practices was also a challenge, but participating in one of my passions made it worthwhile. I have persevered through difficult times and learned new lessons along the way, so there is nothing that could make this sport less meaningful to me. (148)
The horn blew and the game started, Dedham won the face off and is running down the field at a faster pace than I was used to. They shot the ball! I couldn’t move my stick quick enough to save it, so I threw my body in front of it and got hit right in the shoulder. It hurt a lot, but what I hadn’t realized was that it hit my shoulder and reflected ten feet away from the net where my player caught it and ran down the field and scored. The other team didn’t know what hit them. It was the half now and the score was three to nothing in our favor. Our couch told us that we needed to keep up the good work.

I have been coaching and teaching for 10 years, and I am currently the head coach at Katy Taylor HS. I am a coach who likes to win, and I like to create a competitive environment for my players to get the best out of them. My main focus is developing your daughter into a well-rounded athlete and volleyball player for the next level.
This essay is about the observation and analysis of the technique/composition of the performance of the performers on the video provided which is, a netball shooting video. Just for a beginning, in netball today, two basic shots are used which are, Australian high release and Caribbean shot. Netball has a unique style: the ball is released high and is usually released while shooter is stationary.
It was at this moment that I realized that there truly is no “I” in team. A team is not characterized by the individuals within, but rather what the individuals can come together to achieve. For so long I had tried to discover where I belonged on the team. In reality, I should have realized that from the moment I stepped on the court, I was already a member of the varsity team. With a newfound sense of strength, we continued the game. Every single point we won felt like we were putting our lives on the line, while every single point we lost felt like ten-ton chains were holding us down. Even so, it was just another volleyball game. One I had experienced on multiple occasions, perhaps not to the same magnitude, but it was a relatively familiar situation. Strangely, it felt different. I felt more relaxed, more confident, and I was having more fun. At the time, I was not sure what it came from. I was too focused on finishing out the game to pay it much attention. But reflecting on it now, I realize that without a doubt, it was because I truly felt like I belonged on the team. For the first time, I knew that my team was behind me, ready to help me up whenever I fell. We continued on with the game. Despite being down two sets to one at one point, we now found ourselves nearing victory in the fifth set.
