Hi Guys,
This week Alistair and I attended a session from the Partnerships & Fintech team in RBS digital, on the new Business Innovation Framework and Fund (BIFF for short). See attached for a presentation on the Fund.
This is a new funding pool open to all of the group businesses (although currently fund by Mat Comyn) who may have transformational and/or disruptive business ideas that are unlikely to stack up in a traditional business case funding model, such as IPP. This fund pool is looking to provide funding to support innovative ideas through a Proof of Concept to bridge the gap between a good idea and business case readiness.
The funding available would be around $300,000 per idea however it needs to fit into a fair specific criteria
...se enough money during a certain period of time the inventors get start their proposed project.
I am interested in the innovation specialist role at PwC Canada. I envision the convergence of technology-driven disruptions, innovation ecosystems and new business models will play a key role in shaping corporate strategy, innovation and performance.
Spokane Industries has contracted Franklin Electronics for an 18 month product development contract. Franklin Electronics is new to using project management methodologies and has not been exposed to earned value management methodologies. Even though Franklin and Spokane have worked together in the past, they have mainly used fixed-price contracts with little to no stipulations. For this project, Spokane Industries is requiring Franklin Electronics to use formalized project management methodologies, earned value cost schedules, and schedules for reports and meetings. Since Franklin Electronics had no experience with earned value management, the cost accounting group was trained in the methodology in order to bid for the project.
Business has been in charge of the upgraded innovation that has generally supplanted the drudgery of most physical work, an outcome in part of the innovativeness of business and its readiness to take and bear the weight of money related hazard. Besides, maybe no establishment in our regular life is more proficient in its operations and more discerning in its association than business. No foundation is more receptive to the requests of its constituents than business.
The Nimsoft project plan will be derived using discovery-driven planning and by discovering what has already been discovered. Discovery-driven planning offers firms an organized approach to planning for new ventures in emerging markets. Given the uncertainty of new disruptive technology markets, discovery-driven planning drives firms to make assumptions about the organization and the emerging markets, then revise these assumptions as the market develops. Unlike conventional approaches, which focus on projections and prematurely define specific targets, discovery-driven planning focuses on meeting assumptions at key milestones and continually planning and adapting while the emerging market evolves. Thus, firms are able incrementally invest in the project.
This is where a firm has a research team look in to possible new ideas
Making an investment towards a new project/product/company is hardly a simple process. Numerous factors including costs, benefits, time, and resources need to be taken into account before a decision to pursue a new project should be ventured into. At the end of the day prioritising projects and investing funds into projects that have the most potential towards favourable return on investment should be considered. Investment appraisal should not only be used for projects with a monetary return, it is also pertinent to use the tools where the return may not be easy to quantify such as training or development programs. ...f five people to generated new product ideas, among other tasks. One of their roles is to assist business units within 3M to generate new product ideas. They accomplish this by drawing up a plan to create ideas for products that will be marketable ten years in future. Once they have that plan in mind, they backtrack to the present year with new product ideas that are possible with today's technology. They then predict which additional products will be added year by year that will build upon each year's new technological advances to achieve their tenth year vision.

This critical reflection seeks to provide an in-depth analysis of how the entrepreneurial tools taught throughout this semester has assisted me in developing insightful information towards my contributions of the business plan. The process allowed me to identify, clarify and test the credibility of my personal insights. Entrepreneurial tools being assessed are customer experience mapping, questioning and idea networking. The paper started off with a detailed introduction of the actual product that my group have finalised on, then followed by comprehensive evaluations of the tools. Lastly, it ends off with a reflective conclusion with valuable learning points. All in all, it improved the quality of my contribution towards the project.
waste on an idea. There is a quite a gap in the investors circle vs. the emerging SMES. The skepticism lies
Business Model Innovation as a research field and practice, offers a way to think about renewing competitive advantage and bolter growth in an increasingly challenging environment. Developing a successful business model is insufficient to assure competitive advantage as imitation is often easy: a differentiated (and hard to imitate) - yet effective and efficient business model is more likely to yield profits. Business model innovation can itself be a pathway to competitive advantage if the model is sufficiently differentiated and hard to replicate for incumbents and new entrants alike (Teece 2010). Moreover, studies on the topic have shown that firms that were financial outperformers put twice as much emphasis on business model innovation as underperformers (Giesen et al. 2007) and a better business model often will beat a better idea or technology (Chesbrough 2007).
