Herbert Hoover is an extraordinary individual deserving of the Giraffe Award. He founded and lead the Commission for Relief in Belgium during the events of World War I. No one was sending relief effort into German-occupied Belgium. But Hoover wasn’t going to standby and let innocent people starve. He sacrificed his own finances so supplies could be shipped into Belgium, and he personally negotiated with the governments of Belgium, France, Germany and Great Britain so supplies would flow without opposition. Without his intervention, the people of Belgium would have surely starved. A man who risks his finances on the behalf of his fellow man, is deserving of the Giraffe

He declared, “I have an abiding faith in their capacity, integrity and high purpose. “…we find some causes for concern. We have emerged from the losses of the Great War and the reconstruction following it with increased virility and strength.” In this regard, he also pushed the nation to take the blame and the initiative to be responsible to make that change needed.
Some say that the great depression was caused partially by social democracy and planned economies. And although this could be true, it originally started from debts from World War I, and of course the stock market crashing in 1929.
Theodore Roosevelt was one of our greatest presidents. He created the FDA and improved the position of the presidency greatly. Before Theodore came to be president, the position of presidency was slow and wasn’t very interesting so he made the executive branch more powerful by starting new reforms and a strong foreign policy. The life of a president is hard. It is full of stress, responsibilities, and a strong dedication the welfare of your country. Theodore had to deal with all of these presidential stresses, taking up much of his time. Do you know, though, that despite being a president, he led a life of excitement and freedom that many other presidents had never before experienced? Theodore, “Teddy” as his first wife Alice called him, Roosevelt was more than just our president, he was a dedicated author who wrote many books; he was also a rancher, and, surprisingly, he was a big time hunter. Even though Theodore Roosevelt was a president, his life was filled with exciting adventure, times of hardships, responsibilities to many, and influences upon many government positions.

The Gilded age spanned from the 1870s to about 1900. Six presidents were elected during that time period. Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James A. Garfield, Chester A. Arthur, Grover Cleveland, and Benjamin Harrison. Ulysses S. Grant was the first of the presidents elected during the Gilded Age, he was elected in 1869 and his presidency spanned to 1877. On September 24, 1869 the “Black Friday” panic happens in New York City when two gold entrepreneurs and Grant’s brother-in-law try to take control of the gold market. Grant finally orders a large sale of god ruining their plans to take over the market, but it effected the market greatly, stocks crashed, brokerages went bankrupt, and prices for agricultural good dropped severely. He received a lot of criticism for that and many people were strongly affected by this.
Andrew Carnegie and his philanthropy made him a hero because he helped more people than harm in the long run, by this I mean he helped other countries. He also sets a great example to everyone that helping others or someone is not something you need to wait to do when you are no longer living. If someone needed help and even a stable person had the choice to help but until they are no longer alive has little meaning. Perhaps it would be too late when the person isn’t around anymore. Its about what someone can do to help when they are around, it is about what a person can do in the time of need even if it is not much but a little of anything can go a long way. In (Doc C) there is a list of amounts of money that Carnegie has donated to various places which in total he has donated well over $271m but aside from that his corporation is giving out about $100m a year, most of it to education (Doc C)
Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame because of his historic presidency and his work as a political activist helping to change the United States of America into the great nation it is today. Teddy Roosevelt made many monumental decisions and made many projects a success because of his determination and his ideas to better our great nation.
I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

Stephan Grover Cleveland was born on March 18, 1837 in Caldwell New,Jersey, but grew up in New York. He was the fifth child out of nine children born to Ann Neal and Richard Failey. His dad was a presbyterian minister with hardly any money. When Cleavland was 16 his father passed away. Cleveland had to put away his dreams of college and focus on supporting his family. He worked with his older brother in New York city and then as a clerk and part time law student in Buffalo. He never attended collage but he passed the bar exam in 1858. In 1863 he payed a Great Lakes sailor $150 to go to war in his place because he felt he needed to stay with his family. At the age of 22 Cleavland became a lawyer. He became known as a very hard working person. Not long after he became a democratic politition. He also became mayor of Buffalo,New York in 1881 thanks to the Buffalo Democrats who had convinced him to run. In one year Cleveland exposed graft and corruption in the city's municipal services (street cleaning, sewage, and transportation), and set a pace for hard work and efficiency and impressed state leaders in the democratic party. About a year after the democrats wanted Cleavland to be much more. Cleavland was elected govner of New York in 1882. He worked harder and longer hours than anyone else in the state government. Rumors went around saying that Cleavland was the father of a 9 year old and that he had been paying the mother to keep silent. Cleavland came out with the truth. In the mid-1870s he said he had slept with a 38 year old widow by the name of Maria Halpin out of wedlock. About nine months later Oscar Folsom Cleveland's was born.
