Herbert Hoover is an extraordinary individual deserving of the Giraffe Award. He founded and lead the Commission for Relief in Belgium during the events of World War I. No one was sending relief effort into German-occupied Belgium. But Hoover wasn’t going to standby and let innocent people starve. He sacrificed his own finances so supplies could be shipped into Belgium, and he personally negotiated with the governments of Belgium, France, Germany and Great Britain so supplies would flow without opposition. Without his intervention, the people of Belgium would have surely starved. A man who risks his finances on the behalf of his fellow man, is deserving of the Giraffe
