Health care is one of the major concerns for Americans in the contemporary world. Terrorism remained a grave issue for years after 9/11 attacks. The economic recession, however, changed the scenario as several large, medium, and small enterprises were confronting financial challenges. Some firms closed while others reduced their operations. Resultantly, rate of unemployment increased placing significant burden on the national economy. Rising costs and access to health care has become major concerns emphasizing introducing reforms. Spending on health care increased in the last decade and the gravity of situation was aggravated in the aftermath of economic recession. The cost of family exceeded single worker’s full minimum wages in some States like California. Companies had to pay more on health care for example General Motors spent less money on steel and more on health care. Expenditure of Starbucks was more on health care compared with coffee. The rising costs on health care increased expenses of the company with many losing competitiveness especially in the foreign market. Although America spends more money on health care than any other nation in the world, studies have highlighted that almost fifty percent of the time patients are receiving inconsistent, less than adequate and often unsafe care (Halvorson 15). The Obama administration has passed landmark laws to transform health care system by providing easy and swift access to quality care especially to the deprived and vulnerable group. The laws discussed in the paper will be Health Care Bill 2010 and ‘Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act’ passed to increase coverage and reimburse medical expenses.
