The fashion industry makes their clothing line based off of a certain body type as seen through fashion shows where the models are tall and skinny. Clothing companies like Abercrombie and Fitch only want certain people wearing their clothes to make an impression that only good looking people wear their clothes. With fashion and media portraying that certain body types are ideal, people spend money on diets and weight loss programs to fit this mold. Americans spend billions on fad diets such as Atkins diet and weight loss programs such as Nutrisystem and Weight Watchers. The most effective way to lose weight is through exercise and healthy eating. Today’s generation expects quick results with minimal effort. Fad diets prey on this generation wanting results without hard work, the big proclamation from these diets are quick results without having to get off the couch and exercise. Some people do see quick results from these diets but the weight loss and shrinking body size is mainly water weight which will only result in temporary loss.
