Health insurance is very important in our lives and we will never know until we are left to battle with many medical bills. With health insurance you are able to pick if you want a PPO or HMO plan, this determines the providers you may see. Having health insurance allows you to be able to see a provider with little to no out-of-pocket expenses. If you pay for health insurance benefits, it limits the amount of debt that you may have for medical expenses. There are many different types of health insurance plans that may help pay for medical expenses. Everyone needs health insurance. There are many different options for health insurance. Each insurance brand may offer one or more of these four common types of plans: health maintenance organizations (HMOs), preferred provider organizations (PPOs), point-of-service (POS) plans, high-deductible health plans (HDHPs) linked to health savings accounts (HSAs). An HMO delivers health services through a network ( (n.d.)). With an HMO, you may have: The least freedom to choose your health care providers, predictable out-of-pocket costs, and the least amount of paperwork compared to other plans ( (n.d.)). With a PPO, you may have: A moderate amount of freedom to choose your health care providers -- more than with an HMO, you do not have to get a referral from a primary care doctor to see a specialist, generally higher out-of-pocket costs than with an HMO, more paperwork than with other plans if you see out-of-network providers, and the ability to manage your own health ( (n.d.)). A POS plan blends features of an HMO with a PPO. Many people do not realize that health insurance is very important when you have unexpected medical expenses to pay. Medical coverage can get very expensive and unaffordable. Paying medical bills in a timely manner can relive some of your debt and save your credit score. There are many places that may offer care to uninsured patients at discounted prices, but it usually is still a large amount of money. Health insurance gives you a chance to be free of debt, it takes a huge burden off of your shoulders. You are usually allowed to see any physician within the network with little to no co-pay. It is always great to have health insurance because it can relieve some of your debt.
