In this segment of lectures in Health and Human Services, the class has been learning the “Overview of Health and Human Services”, which focuses on the basics for a variety of careers in the field. The lectures have included: “An Introduction to CHHS”, “HHS Agencies and Organizations”, “Becoming an HHS Professional”, “Understanding Frameworks of Health and Wellness”, “Interprofessional Education and Practice in HHS”, “Career Exploration in HHS”, and two separate career panel days. Due to the immense amount of information that was presented to the class, there were many new concepts and terms that were introduced. These included the different types of health organizations, the many different and specific branches of health departments, communication between health care providers, the importance of putting the patient first in treatment, the holistic health model, and the socio-ecological model. The different types of health organizations can range from multilateral, or global, initiatives involving many different governments, to philanthropic organizations that are funded through a small board of Interprofessional collaboration was the topic of an entire presentation and mentioned briefly in a few other presentations such as in, “Becoming an HHS Professional” and “Frameworks, Models, Theories, and Science of Health & Wellness.” In the health care industry, the amount of racial diversity in the system is appallingly low. Due to socio-economic factors for many different races, it is difficult for African American, Hispanic, and other minorities to have the same opportunities to receive an education in health care. D1: I have decided to look at a 6 year old going through bereavement. Bereavement means to lose an individual very close to you. When children go through bereavement they are most likely to feel sad and upset about the person’s death. Children at a young age may not understand when a family member dies. Children may not understand bereavement. For example a 6 year old’s father been in a car crash and has died from that incident. Death is unpredictable and children can’t be prepared for a death of a family member as no one knows when someone is going to die or not. Unfortunately every child can experience bereavement even when a pet dies. It is important that we are aware that effects on the child so we can support them in the aftermath.
The healthcare workforce is suffering critically due to its lack in diversity. As healthcare organizations are growing and the number of patients is increasing, so is the diversity of the patients. There are more minority patients are the number of minorities increase in the United States. The need for minority employees is crucial in that they are needed to help assist patients who have the similar cultural, racial, and ethnic upbringings. There are many barriers in healthcare workforce that are keeping minorities from reaching their full potential to become employees in healthcare, particularly upper-level leadership positions; as patients continue to become more diverse, so does the need of employees.
State and local public health departments throughout the country have the responsibility for improving health in workplaces, schools, and communities through identifying top health problems within society and developing a plan to improve. Barriers the public health system has encountered over the years include: changes in the overall health system that support cost containment and improved health, and an increase in the number of individuals with insurance coverage for direct preventive services; reduction of qualified public health professional and funding at all levels of government; increasing focus on accountability, with higher expectations for demonstrating a return on investment in terms of cost and health improvement (Trust, 2013). In the healthcare system, it is needed even more. Many healthcare facilities need to have their workforce diverse in order to reap benefits. In the 2000 U.S. Census, African Americans accounted for nearly 12.7 percent of the workforce, that number hasn’t increased exponentially today. Many minorities are underrepresented in the healthcare workforce, which can affect delivery of healthcare. The theory used for this case study was effective, because it was able to get P to recognise that change need to occur so the support that she received would be effective. Reflecting on action the outcome of the assessment and intervention that was applied to P’s case I used supervision and to discuss concerns I had regarding this family with my PS. Supervision helped me establish my concerns and areas I required further support in application to theory in evidence based practice ‘blind self’.

To provide effective social services, a social work graduate must possess a multitude of knowledge, skills and abilities. This will be a reflective paper on everything that I know for sure as a student of social work who is about to go into the world of work.
In my journey through my undergrad years, I have realized that becoming a health administrator will allow me to address several of my interests while also allowing me to serve my community. I will be able to expand my thirst for knowledge while also making a self-efficiency community. I feel as a health care administrator, I need to encompass the role of a lifelong learner. For this to be continuing achieved, I need to be critically reflective of my environment and the people in the community.
Pursuing higher education in healthcare is what I have always desired. I believe that healthcare is a field for people who deeply care about the greater good for all human kind. However, after taking various courses in the Public Health major, I have decided to venture in a different direction. Yearning for something more towards the administrative and technical side has been a focal point in my collegiate career. When I discovered Health Informatics and Information Management (HIHIM), I’ve come to the conclusion that this is the perfect path moving forward.
It is true that the years do go by very fast. It is almost unbelievable that I am finally at the doorstep to earn my Bachelors of Science degree in community health. Being in the major has empowered me to work diligently and think critically and strategically before any important decision. Through the School of Public Health I have not only been marinated in valuable information and knowledge, but I have also acquired priceless skills that have extensively prepared me to become a community health professional. Each elective and core courses alike have fully prepared me to meet the competencies of the program. Undergraduate courses such as, Health 200: Introduction to Research in Community health, Health 300: Biostatistics for Public Health Practice, Health 301: Epidemiology for Public Health Practice, Health 391: Principles of Community health, Health 420: Methods and Materials in Community Health and Health 490: Principles of Community Health, have fully prepared me to be a public health professional.
Becoming a social worker would be the greatest and rewarding achievement I could ever accomplish. The social work profession facilitates social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. One of my major inspiration through her quote is (Mother Teresa 2001) “If you can 't feed a hundred people, then feed just one". I connect with this quote because I know I can never change the whole world but I can make a different in one-person life. After I completed year 12 of high school education I wasn’t sure is social work was for me. I decided to do a diploma of community service to get more idea of what social work do. Studying a diploma of community motivated me more to pursue a career as a social worker.
