While there is no such thing as a happily ever after, there is a cycle of stages that turned my relationship into a stronger connection. Our path taught us how to improve through the relationship stages reaching new levels of involvement and intimacy through difficult times. Others might see the dips of the roller coaster as reason to terminate rather than repair what they once had. True growth requires us to use the low points as a way to better appreciate the high points of our new reality. Continuing our relationship still today, we learn to cooperate through listening and receiving before responding in a harsh tone. Knapp’s cycle continues on a course headed towards repair or termination and John and I now work through our issues in a calm and rational way because learned through each difficult time.
The second focus in the University of Charleston’s mission statement is enlightened living (Ucwv.edu, Mission. 2018). The University defines enlightened living is defined as “having a broad range of knowledge in such subjects as economy, politics, art, literature, history, values, moral purpose, and personal character (Ucwv.edu, Mission. 2018). Being involved in the campus at UC helped me to learn about enlightened living. Even though LLOs are normally applied to class I feel that the UC incorporates them into everything they do. “To create an effective environment where students can learn to live enlightened lives they must be taught the rights and responsibilities associated with social, political and economic communities” (Ucwv.edu, LLO. 2018).

The two videos that I like the most from this class was the ted talk name “America’s native prisoners of war” by Aaron Huey, and the documentary “When Your Hands are tied” by Mia Boccella and Marley Shebala. These two videos brought my attention because in the first video which is the ted talk the author of the video is an outsider of the society that he is trying to represent he did not go through the experience that the native people that he is trying to defend went through. In the documentary when your hands are tied this is a little bit more personal I think because this is a documentary where people from the tribe and people that went through all this obstacles are trying to heal themselves.
There are many interesting quotes and advice given in this book; five statements stood out that I felt are worthwhile.

A lot of people use life situations as a means to become more careless or mean, instead of using life’s situation as a tool to become smarter or mentally stronger. As I read this book it gave me a confirmation that if I think about myself before I think about others that it doesn’t make me a bad person or even a selfish person but rather makes me a person who cares about my self-being. She says that we should focus more on our lives then our personal goals and careers. If people spent more time focusing on their lives instead everything else there would be a lot happier people in the world. Many people are focus on things that aren’t important at all or they focus on their career or goals but have a life full of drama and upset. Your life is your foundation and your goals and career are what’s being built on your foundation. If you stack tons of things onto something that doesn’t have something steady to stand on them eventually it’s going to collapse. People need to focus more on living happy and learning that it’s ok to care for
It’s about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way… the dreams will come to you.” To me, this statement means something. After reading this book, I can say I agree with this statement. I believe that working hard toward your dreams, then achieving them, will lead your life in the right way.
Divorce is and has become a major issue in our society, the reason for that has been attributed to the drastic increase in divorce rates over the years. Divorce often disrupts the flow of the family structure, increases discord, and affects how family issues are handled. Families dealing with divorce are often times in a state of complete confusion and disorder, and filled with frustration, anger, and pain. Power struggles between spouses, which often times spread to the children if there any increase as the addiction worsens. There is a growing concernment among those in different fields like Social Work, Academia, and Mental Health in the United States, other countries, who have taken an interest in how divorce is readjusting
...sion, and dedication are the essential ingredients to a fruitful life. Reading the book, “It’s Easier to Succeed than to Fail,” touched my heart. The book was written very simple and from the heart. It contained valuable lessons and inspirational challenges that will inspire young and old people to strive for the very best. I love the book. It is truly a must read book. I highly recommend the book. It will make you glad to be in a world with people like Truett Cathy.

For my honors assignment, I chose the TED talk “The secret to desire in a long-term relationship” by couple’s therapist Esther Perel. As I read down the list through my options for the assignment write up, this one caught my attention right away. I feel as though this article specifically lured me in because I could relate to it the most, taking that I have been in a long-term relationship for seven years. I felt that choosing to write about this TED talk would be beneficial to me in hearing what Esther Perel had to say on the topic that may affect someone just like me, and to also connect to all that we have learned in FSHD 237 this semester.
