The Hawksbill Turtle is an extremely interesting animal. It is most definitely one of the most unusual sea creatures out there. It is a cold-blooded animal (reptile). With being a cold-blooded animal, this means that it has to have a body temperature where it stays the same in the sea and also on the land. It is called a Hawksbill Turtle because of the shape of its beak which resembles a hawks beak which is a big and very dominant bird. The Hawksbill have two claws on each flipper. It also has thick overlapping scutes on the shell. Scutes are the scales that appear on a turtle’s back.
Hawksbill Turtles are usually found throughout the tropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. They seem to avoid deep waters, which they prefer staying close to the coastlines where they can reach an easy nesting site in the sand, according to National Geographic.
The Hawksbill Turtle is an omnivore. An omnivore is an animal or person that eats plants. It is a well sized turtle. Usually grows up to about 45 inches in their shell length and can weigh up to 150 pounds.
