Health promotion concept has been used for many decades to enable people have proper control over their health status. Health promotion is the process of enabling individuals to have and increase control of their health to improve their livelihood. In general, health promotion concept revolves around various activities mostly aimed at decreasing the threats and dangers to health. The activities referred herein include various interventions that facilitate health promotion. The interventions include primary, secondary and tertiary levels of preventions.
Consequently, the primary interventions aim at protecting healthy people from experiencing injuries or developing diseases. It encompasses provision of education on the importance of regular exercises, good nutrition and emphasizing on the dangers of substances like alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in bid to reduce the incidences from recurring.
Secondary interventions on the other hand lay focus on the incidences that have already transpired. This means that secondary interventions come after diagnosis of certain risk factor, with the major aim of slowing down its progress. For instance, a person with HIV virus can be encouraged to continue taking drugs to slow down the virus effects. Many health organizations lay emphasis on secondary interventions since in it are the most apparent situations.
The tertiary level on the other hand helps people to manage already complicated situations. This applies to individuals with long-term health complications. Such conditions may include cancer, diabetes and heart diseases.

Secondary levels of prevention involve finding solution to already existing cases of illnesses. Interventions herein involve taking care of the patients, giving them correct medication and advice that is relevant to their situations. The aim of secondary levels of prevention is to slow down the effects and rates of infection.
Tertiary level aim at dealing with extreme cases of illnesses; this is where the situation is already complicated, and the measures put in place targets to help the victim survive, and be relieved of the pain involved. Most institutions largely concentrate their efforts on the secondary and tertiary levels of prevention, not knowing that preventive measures are paramount when seeking permanent solutions. The current nursing training takes into consideration all these levels hence making prevention easy.
