Harry S. Truman has done many things but today we are going to talk about what his life was like as a young adult, how he had to make a huge decision, and how he won the election. Harry S. Truman was the 33rd president of the United States, was born on May 8, 1884 in a little town called Lamar, in Missouri. 1890, the same year the Little White House was built, Truman's family moved to Independence, Missouri. When Harry was growing up as a kid, he had a variety of jobs. Harry was a farmer, a banker, and he drilled oil. By the time it reaches the year 1917, he is reaching his thirty’s, and World War 1 was in full force. That’s when Harry decides to join the army. When he served he went to France and came out a captain in May of the year 1919. A month after that, he met a girl named Elizabeth Wallace and decided to marry this girl that he was so fond of. President Harry S. Truman became President of the United States after the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt on April 12 in the year 1945. During his eight years in office, Truman confronted huge challenges in both foreign and domestic affairs. Truman’s policies were out there, and especially toward the Soviet Union in the coming on Cold War, would become hard for the American foreign policy for generations. “In the early morning hours of July 16, 1945, great anticipation and fear ran rampant at white sands Missile Range near Alamogordo, New Mexico. Robert Oppenheimer, director of the Manhattan Project, could hardly breathe. Years of secrecy, research, and tests were riding on this moment. “For the last few seconds, he started directly ahead and when the announcer shouted now!” ("Harry s. truman ," ). Harry had a huge decision put on his hands. He had to choose whether or not to drop... ... middle of paper ... ...bombs dropped on the cities that devoted to war work, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Japanese finally surrendered to the U.S. quickly after it bomb hit. After all of this happened with Japan, we all decided it would be good if we had some kind of peace with them so no more atomic bomb had to be dropped. He the decided not to run for President again, and shortly after, he retired to Independence at the age of 88. He then died on December 26, 1972, after he had to fight stubbornly for his life. And with all of that said, there is a quote that he said before he died and after the war was over. “I wonder how much better off the country would have been if I had been a concert pianist.” ("American president harry," 2013). He said this to some American musicians at the Potsdam Conference. This quote makes me wonder if maybe he didn’t want to be president. You be the judge.

The Cold War began and Truman worked to contain communism. The Soviets had put a containment around Berlin and therefore the American’s could not get in supplies to the democratic people there. Truman then got the daring idea to do an airlift to get supplies to the people there and it was highly successful. This was a brave action because of a few reasons. The nation was scared of another world war with the Soviet Union and Truman had the lowest approval ratings he had ever had. This action had a chance of causing retaliation from the Soviet Union and was therefore highly risky. He also had reelection coming up which required the public’s approval and this action could risk getting that approval. While this showed bravery for the previously stated reasons it also showed his compassion for people. He made sure these people were taken care of with very few excuses. This event also led to an expansion in the defense department in the United States. This growth of the defense department continued for several years and continued to provide some protection throughout the Cold War. While it can be difficult to see exactly how this effected the rest of the Cold War but it can be argued that it definitely helped the side of democracy in the world. Both bravery and compassion are great traits for a successful President, so it is no surprise that he was so
Truman’s accomplishments in his domestic policy were impressive, considering the hardships the nation was experiencing as World War II came to an end, and the resistance of Congress (which was greatly made up of Republicans and conservatives) to liberalism. The president was able to pas...

Harry Truman known as for having a heroic presidency served our country as the 33rd president of the United States after the death of Franklin Roosevelt in April. Truman only had a high school education and was only vice president for 82 days before the passing of FDR. He had inherited the huge tasks of leading the United States through the end of World War II and the beginning of the Cold War. Truman’s legacy as the nation’s leader is on point of controversial decisions.
John Calvin Coolidge, thirtieth President of the United States, was a quiet but brave man. His primary focus was on domestic issues within the United States. His childhood was hard, he pulled through and his life was a mirror of his strength. Calvin Coolidge did great things which were reflected in his personal life, his political upbringing, and his presidency until his death.
Harry S. Truman was the 33rd president of the United States of America. He became president because Franklin D. Roosevelt died during his term; Truman was Roosevelt’s Vice President at the time. Truman found himself facing some of the greatest challenges met by any 20th-century president. He discovered in July 1945 that some scientists working for the United States government had successfully tested an atomic bomb in New Mexico. President Truman wanted to use the atomic bomb to end the war in the Pacific, but with fewest U.S. catastrophes. This decision was one of the most momentous decisions of the 20th century and extremely perplexing when analyzed.
A multitude of influential presidents have come and gone in America, although none like Harry S. Truman. This above average president is one to be recognized for his unbelievable achievements within political foreign policies and governing here in the states. Although first struggling to gain his balance after the sudden death of his predecessor, Truman remained loyal to the Unites States and proved to be one of the most charismatic, and beneficial presidents that the nation has ever seen. The influences of Truman’s early life and introduction to politics, as well as the unexpected win of presidency and constant failures and triumphs shaped this man’s life as well as those of the American people.
While working on his family’s farm, Truman served in the Missouri National Guard. In 1917, when America entered World War I, Truman was in his early thirties and reenlisted in the National Guard and was sent to France. In 1919 when he returned from the war, Truman married Elizabeth “Bess” Wallace, his childhood friend. The Trumans had one daughter, Mary. Mary grew up to be a singer and a writer of many novels. (mention the novels if you can)
At the end of World War II, the military and foreign policies of the White House were moving in opposite directions. Militarily, the U.S. adopted a position of rapid demobilization after the war. Meanwhile, Truman had a strong desire to meet the communist ‘threat’ head on. Congress, however, did not share Truman’s view of needing "to meet the Communist challenge wherever it appeared." For example, Senator Robert Taft, a prominent Republican senator, "expressed the current mood when he objected to any attempt by the Administration to divide the world into communist and anti-communist zones, for "he did not want war with the Soviet Union." As for the sentiment of the American public, "there was no denying that the majority of the American people did not want to embark on a Crusade." With opposition from not only the American public but also from Congress, President Truman had to take action in order to convince Americans of the reality of the Soviet threat, in addition to the threat of communism in general. In fact, Truman was even told that he would need “to scare the hell out of the American people.” He did just that with the Truman Doctrine.
During his presidential terms Harry Truman showed resilience when faced with the many foreign affairs he faced. Events that would highlight Truman’s characteristics as an admirable leader include the hardships he faced during World War II, and his efforts for the containment of communism during the Cold War tensions.
The President of the United States, whomever it may be, has always stood as a beacon, often offering vagabond refugees and warring nations mellifluous words of comfort and providing a haven from atrocities committed almost daily in emerging nations. As such, it's no surprise that a president wont to promote democracy would consider just which sorts of ramifications his actions would hold stands yet as a symbol of American virtue and dignity. Harry S. Truman, who thoughtfully steered the United States through the later part of the bloodcurdling quagmire that was World War II, was the most capable and perhaps accomplished president the United States has witnessed; he was the best of an elite best.
April 12, 1945 - January 20, 1953 was the time of presidency for President Harry S. Truman. Truman was not very known at first, but was very much involved with America's war plans. It was his decision to drop the Atomic Bombs. Truman himself felt it was right to proceed with the plan to drop the bomb. He had a few main reasons for this: First, the bomb would bring the war to and end quickly; second, it would keep the U.S.S.R out of Asia; and third, it would test America's new technology.
The thirty-third president of the United States initiated great change within our country. Harry S. Truman, the creator of the Truman Doctrine created an era of change in United States foreign policy. Truman was the first to create a foreign policy in order to contain Communism, a policy that has been called, 'the hallmark of the Cold War.'1 The Truman Doctrine led to major changes in the U.S., from its inception, to its influence in the Vietnam War.
