People like to keep guns because it makes them feel safer and more powerful, if you hurt them they can kill you. Now how is that in anyway okay? That just spreads the message of its okay to kill people as long as it was in “self-defense” how is that defense? It is violence plain, clear and simple. Guns are a weapon not a defense.
From a consensus from 2008, there were over 16,000 murders in the United States, and from these 16,000 murders, 10,000 were from firearms alone (Gun Control – Just Facts). Some of these murders happen over unnecessary arguments. It’s impossible to confiscate every single gun from every American that owns one. The true fact behind that is it will only leave guns in the hands of criminals. Then the average citizen can’t defend him/or her when there is a home invasion.
Thirty-four percent of “handgun predators” were scared off or shot at by armed victims. Fifty-seven percent felt that the criminal feared being shot by citizens more than they feared being shot by police. (“A Survey of Felons and Their Firearms”) An estimated 65-70 million privately owned handguns in the United States are only used for hunting, target shooting, protection of families, businesses, and other legitimate and lawful purpose. Ninety-nine percent of all ... ... middle of paper ... ... If someone murdered someone and the murderer was wearing gloves to cover up their finger prints then how would the judge know that it was the murder’s gun because he did not have the proper paperwork for the gun and his finger prints where covered up?
If gun control laws were enforced, the Second Amendment would be violated. In addition, guns will be less accessible for law-abiding citizens to purchase. Crime rate will not diminish if stricter gun laws are enacted. Because guns have the ability to cause crime and violence, few people like them. People see firearms as weapons of criminal activity.
Gun laws and background checks should be changed; thousands of innocent people are killed each year at the fault of a gun falling in the wrong hands. If we included a psychiatric evaluation in our background checks it could save lives. Getting access to a gun has become too easy for criminals and terrorists. All gun purchases require a background check, but that only includes in store purchases (Clarke and Martin). If all of the requirements checks out you can walk out
Also if everybody was armed, Criminals and under-the-radar insane people would all want to perform heinous acts against society. In Gun Control by Earl Kruschke he states, “Someone who keeps a gun in their house for self-defense is more likely to injure themselves than to ward off an attacker” (Kruschke 34). That means owning a gun for self-defense and recreational use is statistically not worth doing, but it may offer some much needed peace of mind. Many citizens believe that owning a gun in a home can be an effective way to defend their
Banning handguns leaves citizens with less self-defense options. When people are stripped of the most effective form of self-defense, they are vulnerable, and this is a serious problem. Stossel (2008) is right about gun bans preventing law abiding citizens from using guns in self-defense, and this gives the advantage to the criminal. A law abiding citizen will not break the law and own a handgun if they are banned, but a criminal will. If an individual desires to rob a bank or murder someone, he or she is not going to be worried about breaking a gun ordinance.
The best way to reduce gun risks is to remove guns from home. Candamo 2 Children suicide has truly become a problem of outbreak proportions in America that must be addressed from every direction. As numerous studies have shown, children use guns in roughly two out of every three-suicide attempt, and handguns are used in 70% of these. In 1998 alone, 1200 youth in America committed suicide with a gun, the same of one every seven hours. Children suicide attempts are usually impulsive acts, and the easier it is to carry out.
If an individual carries a gun, then, it would not count as a violence against others because amendment gave right to the people of the United States. Second pro side of the gun control law is, More gun control laws would reduce gun deaths. Between 1999 and 2013, there were total of 464,033 gun deaths. 270,237 people did suicides which is 58.2% of total deaths, 174,773 people were murdered, which is 37.7% of total death and 9,983 people were unintentionally deaths which is 2.2% of the total death. Guns were the leading cause of death by homicide and suicide.
Taking away guns will not stop crime because it’s the people who use guns for bad reasons that are responsible. We have to come to the understanding that there are just some bad people out there and they will commit criminal acts regardless of any laws put in place. All the gun related offenses that spark debate for stricter gun laws are all illegal and hasn’t stopped criminals from doing them, so newer gun control laws wouldn’t stop them either. “How many shootings at schools or malls will it take before we understand that people who intend to kill are not deterred by gun laws? Last I checked, murder is against the law everywhere.
