Acting in Kindness Together
A random act of kindness by definition is understood to be unsystematically acting in goodwill without any expectation of return or benefit to oneself. According to the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (RAKF), there is a “kindness movement” in progress. The main goal of this movement is to help create a better world by increasing awareness and spreading acts of kindness. (Random) Scott Adams, creator of the comic strip Dilbert, proclaims not to believe that an act of kindness could ever be too small. Adams points out that every act of kindness creates a ripple without end. (Random) Adams’ point of view coincidently corresponds with Newton’s third law of motion. Which according to, Tom Henderson creator of the Physics Classroom website, Newton’s third law states: “a force is a push or a pull that acts upon an object as a result of its interaction with another object. Forces result from interactions!” (Henderson) In other words for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction; whether good or bad. Therefore, the act of kindness when put into motion is the “force” that starts a chain reaction with immeasurable positive bearing; encouragement that consumes the recipient(s) and then spreads back to the originator of the benevolent action(s); including any and all participates. For this random act of kindness project the requirements specified for a group to first choose an organization. Next, conduct research to provide a brief history and an explanation of the services provided. Then, volunteer at the location and interview staff and those being served; to help identify a need the agency is currently facing. Finally, collaboratively compile a proposal for a solution for the identified need. First ...

It has been concluded to be the least invasive, yet most effective solution for all involved. It only takes one visit to NCC to see the scope of age, talent, specialties and resources available on campus. This is a multifaceted plan to inspire civic mindedness on campus at NCC and in the community at large. This is also a great opportunity for the NCC student body to make an effective difference for not only the RM HHI ReStore but also to help start a continuum of volunteers that has the potential to perpetuate for many years.

My attention was also drawn to several questions in this podcast, which made me eager to find the answers to these questions. For example, one interesting question I heard was “when you do see generosity how do you know it’s really generous” (Levy, 2010). This question stood out to me because it is one particular question I don’t think about often and made me wonder whether people help someone out because they see it as a duty. However, I believe the best answer to this question is the portrayal of the concept of norm of reciprocity, which indicates “the expectation that helping others will increase the likelihood that they will help us in the future” (Akert, Aronson, & Wilson, 2013, p.303). This is true because “generosity” happens when both persons are nice to each other and if an individual helps another person then it’s easy to assume that the person who was

Most people feel that they should help the needy in some way or another. The problem is how to help them. This problem generally arises when there is a person sitting on the side of the road in battered clothes with a cardboard sign asking for some form of help, almost always in the form of money. Yet something makes the giver uneasy. What will they do with this money? Do they need this money? Will it really help them? The truth of the matter is, it won't. However, there are things that can be done to help the needy. Giving money to a reliable foundation will help the helpless, something that transferring money from a pocket to a man's tin can will never do.
2, 2007, Wesley Autrey jumped on the subway tracks of a New York City subway platform, as a train was approaching to save a man who fell due to a seizure. Since most people would tend to argue that he did it influenced by pure altruism, because he did not gain anything in this moment, he got the satisfaction of having helped somebody, and the respect of that and other humans after that accident, which proves that there was no pure altruism. Altruism, an illusionary behavior, lets us gain from charity, but always requires something in return, influenced by reciprocal altruism and empathy, universal egoism and moral, leading to an overvaluing of the action.
Having a wish fulfilled is a desire everyone keeps, but granting one is a special characteristic of a chosen few. Such is the ideology of the Make a wish foundation. This simple, but powerful belief is what drives the Make-A-Wish foundation. For children who must face the uncertainty of a tomorrow, due to their rapidly deteriorating health, a wish is more than just a desire. It’s a hope. Hope is what carries us out of the darkest of slums, to keep going. To face a tomorrow. Make-A-Wish is committed to granting the wish of every eligible child. They do this believing that wishes can make sick children feel better, and sometimes, when they feel better, they get better. Since the spring of 1980, they have been granting the wishes of children diagnosed with a life-threatening medical conditions. The make a wish foundation has the ability to not only unite a society as whole and further the awareness of life threatening illnesses, but also gives hope to individuals and a community as a whole.
We are privileged to have our own Ronald McDonald House here in Omaha, located at 620 South 38th Avenue in the downtown area. Racial discrimination still lives in this country, especially in the housing market. This has become a major concern for racial minorities. The issues prevalence and persistence has created an almost overwhelming amount of socio-economic issues within racial minorities. This issue in particular has sparked many disputes on the topic of racism and whether it is even still an occurring issue. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has conducted several studies which revealed that discriminatory acts between potential home buyers and the property seller are still persistent. According to the National Low-Income Housing Coalition, HUD conducted a test to see if these claims were viable: “[The test consisted of] well- qualified white and minority (black, Hispanic, and Asian) testers who contacted housing providers to schedule in-person meetings and view available units. Tests were conducted in 28 metropolitan areas across the country in both rental and sale markets” (“National Low-Income Housing Coalition”). The results of this test supported these assumptions because minority renters and white renters were equally able to make an appointment for a particular property. However, minority testers were explicitly told that there were fewer options available. There were instances where the housing providers were not willing to meet with them. It has also been reported for “both Black/ White and Hispanic/White tests an average incidence of [twelve percent] of steering that promoted racial/ethnic segregation” (George and Godfrey, 254) .There are many theories about why this discrimination type occurs. The most reoccurring theory is that racial minorities are assumed to be high-risk applicants in the real estate market. These p...
Everyday we see someone that needs help in the community or a friend, family, or even someone at your school. Some of our greatest leaders have told us that one small act of kindness can make the world a more enjoyable place. Martin Luther King was among one of those many leaders and has created the greatest change in our society’s history. Civilization cannot merely exist without the help of one another and our society would end if humanity decided to stop being kind or compassionate. Our professors and teachers give us the materials and assistance we all need in order to reach great measures in our future. Small acts of kindness have even inspired the most influential people and has led them to
People perpetrate seemingly selfless acts almost daily. You see it all over the news; the man who saved that woman from a burning building, the mother who sacrificed herself to protect her children from the bomb blast. But how benevolent are these actions? Are these so-called “heroes” really sacrificing themselves to help others? Until recently, it was the common belief that altruism, or selfless and unconditional kindness, was limited primarily to the human race. However, within the last century, the works of several scientists, most prominently George Price, have provided substantial evidence concluding that altruism is nothing more than a survival technique, one that can be calculated with a simple equation.
Habitat for Humanity is deserving of funding because they transform the world into a better place. By 2020, over 1 billion people will live in urban slums, which, sustains the urgency of Habitat for Humanity. In the United States 45.8 million people live in urban slums, yet this problem has not been fixed. Almost everyone agrees Habitat for Humanity provides an important charity because their proper housing creates safety for humans. At its basics, Habitat for Humanity confirms the a dire need for each and every person in the world.
Nonprofit Organizations The purpose of this research is to define nonprofit organizations, describe opportunities that are present in nonprofits, outline advantages and disadvantages of working in the nonprofit sector, and explain how you can determine if this is an area for you to consider as a career. WHAT IS THE NONPROFIT SECTOR? "Nonprofit" is a term that the I.R.S. uses to define tax-exempt organizations whose money or "profit" must be used solely to further their charitable or educational mission, rather than distribute profits to owners or shareholders as in the for-profit sector. The term is also used to describe organizations which are not a branch of -- are independent of -- the government and the corporate sector. This term refers to one of the most important uniqueness of a nonprofit organization: it is independent of both the public or government sector and the private or corporate sector.
The relationship between young people and nonprofits can be the start of a significant change in our community, and should be a reciprocal and powerful educational experience. An open-minded and encouraging flow of communication between organizations and community members can be the launchpad for the social and environmental change organizations talk about and try for every day. Together, we can make change – not just a semblance of idealism, but reality, as well.

“To whom much is given, much is expected.” This quote exemplifies my own personal philosophy on community service. Service is the greatest gift one can return to their community. When an individual takes their personal time and effort to help others in need, it helps progress not only the community they live in, but multiple communities ; ultimately promoting unity and teamwork. People gather together to work towards a common goal: building the people and organizations they are directly and indirectly affected by so that the next generation will be stronger than the previous one. Community service is but is not limited to monetary and material donations, housing reinforcement, neighborhood clean ups. It is as simple as holding a toy drive for
It involves the mutual feeling and authentic way of giving generously. generosity has nothing to do with random actions however it can be an essential focus on existence. Generosity usually entails giving not just whatever, but typically giving those things that are beneficial to others. The things you can genuinely give regularly fluctuates it could possibly be time, money, motivation, assistance, etc. The outcomes of the situations as a rule anticipates to heighten the actual comfort of the recipient. Generosity isn’t just only in the region of assisting persons with less privileges than ourselves. It is roughly giving liberally, with no stipulations, and lacking a need for justification. Generosity isn’t just exclusively centered around someone’s financial position, but in its place, take in account of the individual 's wholesome purposes of looking in the open for the general public’s conjoint wellbeing and offerings from the heart and soul. Generosity ought to be a sign of the individual 's enthusiasm to lend a hand to others. For example, an individual who decides to consume their whole summer vacation and dedicates it to volunteering at a hospital to oversee and aid the disabled adolescents and adults could perhaps come about as wasteful and distasteful for a lot of people, on the other hand it can be seen as highly worthwhile and fulfilling to
